At some point during this whole exam process I developed a strange study break habit and I was just wondering if anyone else does this too. I start getting really burnt out after about 2 hours of staring at my computer, and somehow I got into a routine of taking breaks to listen to a pump up song and give myself an extra burst of energy to knock out another 2 hours of studying. Does anyone else have similar study strategies? Or maybe some awesome pump up song suggestions? If so, please share!

I’ve been amazed at how much energy I can create during a 3 minute break and, admittingly, a rock out dance session in my living room :-). Below is a list of my top go-to songs for each test I’ve taken over the past year. It’s been a rough road but I think this strategy has definitely helped me!

    Audit:

Attempt 1- Owl City – Hot Air Balloon

    Attempt 2- Neon Trees – 1983

    FAR:

Attempt 1- Sara Bareilles – King of Anything

Attempt 2- Katy Perry – Last Friday Night

    REG:

Attempt 1- Glee Cast- Valerie (don’t hate on Glee)

    BEC:

    Attempt 1- Rihanna- S&M (Ke$ha’s “Kiss ‘n Tell” was a close second!)

During the week I can only get about 2 hours of time in after work and then to get another hour I take a bath and listen to Stone Sour's say you'll haunt me. I can then work another 30 or so MCQs before bed. On the weekends I typically put in about 6 hours but have to take a TV break (NCIS or SVU) mid way through the day.

Up Up & Away ~ Kid Cuti (if you just need to get up and forget)

Hey Hey Hey ~ Michael Franti (if you're feeling particularly beat up and hopeless)

Scotty Doesn't Know ~ Lustra (silly, especially if you just told your bf/gf that you were too busy for them)

Jumping at the Woodside ~ Benny Goodman (if you're into 30's big band jazz)

Home ~ Edward Sharpe & The Magnetic Zeros (perfect if your significant other is right there studying something besides you)

caveat: not pump up, but a good EFF! I GOT A FREAKING 74! song

    It Happens ~ Sugarland

caveat: not pump up, but gives me hope:

Nothing Lasts Forever ~ Brett Dennen (it's true, this won't last forever)

    happy studying everyone!

I like to mix in some angry Eminem tunes, a Flashdance number, or some Prince. Sometimes I'll bring them up on YouTube and do a mini-workout or dance to them. It helps.
