I’m currently in NYS and they require CPA supervisor. While I do work under a CPA, I want to accelerate the process because I have accounting experience prior and I just want to get my CPA title quicker even if in another state. I been researching online, but some information are contradicting. I think Illinois can work. But I’m wondering if there’s any other states that offers it and have cheaper license fee.

I can't think of any states other than Illinois off the top of my head that don't require a CPA to sign off. Many states, though, don't require the CPA to be your supervisor, but only to verify and sign off on your experience.

NC allows a license with 4 years of accounting experience if you can’t get a year under a licensed CPA. Montana lets any licensed CPA attest to experience so if your current CPA supervisor will agree to attest to your other experience that should work. You will then have to apply to New York for reciprocity and hope they will accept or you won’t be able to use the CPA designation in NY.

In Indiana you need a CPA sign-off, but doesn't need to be your supervisor, I think Michigan is the same. You can look up the NASBA experience verification service. I almost did it, but was able to find a CPA at a bank we did audit work for that signed off for me. It cost $500, i think you could pick from about 10 different states. Then someone from the board would review your resume, interview you over skype, and verify your experience.

Go through NASBA for Montana if your CPA supervisor will attest to your other experience. I was just approved and have to say it was pretty painless. Biggest issue for me was that they require transcripts from every school attended and that took time for me because I have 7. As of today though I am done!
