I’m curious if any readers have received a six sigma certification. I got my CPA license several months ago and work in internal audit so I believe there may be some value in six sigma training. I’m curious about the difficulty of the material, what company you used and whether or not you think it’s worth the money. Thanks!n

I personally have not received Six Sigma training, but I was involved pretty heavily in my company's version of lean manufacturing during the last six months of 2010. In my current position in internal audit this exposure is quite valuable as we often go beyond internal control and search for operational efficiencies. The activities I was engaged in and the frame of mind I developed while in the lean manufacturing environment are very beneficial to my current position.

I think it would be worth it to become familiar with Six Sigma and other lean manufacturing techniques. The extent of the benefit, though, depends on whether your internal audit department actively looks for operational efficiency or if it is focused primarily on internal control and financial reporting.n
