    Hi All,

I have started studying for REG this week and I am a bit overwhelmed. I am using becker books and software. I have just finished the lectures for Chapter 1 and I’ve been doing some hwk problems – I did really bad in them. The questions are so detailed and there are so many little exceptions and requirements. I can’t figure out what the best way to remember or memorize all of these would be.

Any study tips or methods that I could try?

    Thanks!

I struggled w/ tax too, I passed it for the second time in Q1 and this is what I tried, I didn't bother worrying about the details too much and just got through the tax material for familiarity and understanding first, and then moved on to business. Then I went back to Tax to really take in all the fine print. Consider a second visit throught tax, if you have the time it will definately help.

Also, If you're pressed for time, I've used beckers Final Review, backwords to cut through the material. What I mean is using it throughout the course to make sure you have absorved at a minimum whatever the outline covers for each corresponding topic. But use this w/ a grain of salt, it's not foolproof.

Other than that, keep practicing and make flaschards

..Any adice on FAR? I have 2 weeks of review left, and am gemerally weak w/ J/E's. Finished my first round w/ Beckers but need to streamline my review.

    Goodluck w/ Reg

You're right – REG is tough and overwhelming. The more you know the better, obviously, but I'd focus on learning the concepts and the numbers that don't change every year e.g. 7.5% threshold for medical expense deduction, etc. Also, don't forget business law–tax is 60% of the exam, but the SIMS are probably going to be all or mostly tax so there will be plenty of MCQ for business law. Do as many sample questions as you can – a test bank like Wiley or Gleim can be really helpful in reinforcing material and learning a lot of little details.

    FAR 4/1/11 - 89
    AUD 4/15/11 - 85
    REG 4/29/11 - 80
    BEC 5/13/11 - 85

    Thanks for the tips..!

I might invest in a test bank because I think Becker's questions alone might not be enough.

@audittaxman for FAR I spent my last two weeks doing the following review:

First nine days = 1 chapter per day

100 MCQ per day + reviewing notes for chapters + 1 sim. (eg. day 1 = read notes for chpt 1 and do 100 mcq)

The next couple of days I took practice exams and took notes on the areas that I kept scoring under 80. Then went back and did 100 mcq in those areas and re read any notes I took for that part.

I only did 100 mcq a day because I tend to get burn out and I knew if I was burnt out by the time I got to the exam I'd just fly through it to get out of there (probs not reading all questions). Since the TBS are worth more than the sims (i took it in 2010) I'd include more of that in the review!! To be honest in my review if I was tired I didn't do the sims. But I know this can be bad now that they are worth more.

    Hopes that helps
