Reg lived up to the hype!

But I suppose my experience is “normal”. Just a brutal mind numbing exam that was. Actually feel somewhat decent about the multiple choice although each testlet I put in my fair share of guesses(some of them educated, some of them blind). And then the dreaded sims, I was hopeful that I’d know half of them but its safe to say I bombed that part–definitely didn’t feel comfortable with any of them but feel like I picked up some points here and there. I do feel confident about the research question though. Overall if this were my first exam I’d think there was no doubt that I failed—but just knowing the process and being used to this feeling I am somewhat hopeful that when the chips fall I can hopefully sneak by with a pass. If so, I am done. In the meantime I am debating whether to re-apply with my state board just in case I don’t pass, I figure I will gladly eat the $50 if I end up passing, and if I fail I will at least be in a good position to schedule a retake soon—anyone ever do this?

Just got back from my abuse.

Wow, that sucked so unbelievably bad. 1st testlet was not that terrible, 2nd one was Reg on Roids, and the Third one was somewhere in between. Those all were cake compared to the simulations which were straight up insane. Two whole sims devoted to something Becker barely covered. In fact, in the actual text it sayed that these rules are rarely tested, but if they are there are only a few key points. Well guess what? It was not rarely tested and when it was they threw every possible scenario in there to. Even topics I knew well had weird twists that I never had seen in any practice materials. Ahh I need a drink.

    You're scaring me Ruby =(

I take it on Tuesday and it's my first exam. GL to the both of you though, hopefully you did better than you guys think! I was also curious about the resched thing, there's no way to un-schedule to get your money back?

    *edit

I also like that “Reg lived up to the hype!” and “Reg was way over hyped” threads are both next to each other on the forums.

I keep having constant nightmares even 3 or 4 weeks after I took REG. I understand your pain 100%

I had to laugh when I saw that comment. It's sad but true, this exam feels like a train just passed over us.

I take this on Tuesday. I am more worried about this than the other two exams Ive taken. And now Wiley's website is down for 2 days and I cant practice. Why would they do that right before the end of a testing window?

@Phlopp—I picked that title for that very reason! I wouldn't reschedule, I was moreso wondering about just re-applying for it again now in case I fail. Just hit the books as hard as you can before friday.

Same to you PShustler, looks like youve done decent on other exams, how did you feel after those? I am trying not to be too discouraged or scare anyone with regards to REG, but its hard not to feel like “wow I failed that”. That being said I honestly think its like that for most who pass, just goes to show what a psyche killer this exam can be—for example I always try and notice if my testlets are getting harder but have yet to notice a difference in any of my exams. Then afterward I kill myself with “was testlet 2 harder than 1, and was 3 easier than 2 but harder than 1” and yadda yadda.

Good luck you guys—study hard and you will have a good shot!

I can't really analyze because I haven't taken the exam, but you sure beat the hell out of my scores. I did very poorly on that exam, kinda freaked me out.

Thanks Phllop. I am using Becker. Some of the posts suggest that Becker doesn't prepare as well as others. I am not sure why such a feedback. I am worried as I am only 3 full days away from the exam.

Becker did an ok job in my view.

Some posts here rail on them for stressing Blaw/CPA liability, however I found a ton of MCQ's were geared that way.

Don't feel like I was prepared enough for the sims, but honestly I could have practiced every sim known to man and still not have been prepared for that clusterfuck.

@herbert7890 Thanks for the reply. Are phaseout limitations tested a lot?

Another Question – Can somebody tell me how much time I should plan on leaving for the simulations. When I did Becker exam, I completed it with more than 50 minutes early. Any suggestions?

Can't answer your question re phaseout limitations. Not only would it be violating the disclosure restriction, but everyone's test is different so the number of questions I saw on any particular topic wouldn't necessarily apply to yours.

I'd leave at least 1 1/4 hours for the SIMS. I had 1 1/2 hours and used all but 5 minutes. I finished all of them except one in 45 minutes, but the last one was a lengthy question on a topic I don't think an experienced tax accountant would see more than every few years. I used the research tab but also struggled because the question was so poorly worded I wasn't sure what was being asked. You may end up with extra time, but if you get a tough SIM, you'll be glad to have it.

    AUD 4/15/11 - 85
    REG 4/29/11 - 80
