Recruiting season after graduation

    Hello everyone,

I am currently in a Masters of Accounting program in Metro Detroit. I am studying for the CPA exam and have an expected graduation date of April 2013 with my Masters degree. My current GPA is 3.6, however, my Undergraduate GPA was 3.1. I have been working at a small local firm in their audit department since October 2011, and will have the necessary 2,000 hours work experience and 150 credit hours in April 2013.

I went through the recruiting season the past couple of months and interviewed with a Big 4 firm, a regional firm and a local firm, but I had no luck landing a job.

My question is how do I land a job after I graduate? I am unfamiliar with the recruiting process after graduation since I will be out of school during the normal recruiting season. Should I contact the Big 4 recruiters and let them know my current situation?

The firm I am at right now unfortunately has limited growth potential for me to move up in the firm due to it’s size but I have gotten some valuable experience.

Any help would be greatly appreciated.

There's no real “recruiting process” per se. After graduation the firms sometimes need to fill additional holes in their hiring. At that point, recruiters sometimes call “runner ups” to see if they're interested in a full time offer. Or they can ask recommendations from interns or professors.

Mostly though, post graduation recruiting is non-existent. You can always try applying as an experienced hire afer a year or so. Or…try to get hired by an accounting staffing agency. They usually contract employees to public accounting firms if there's a staffing need. If the contracter does a good job, the firm might offer them a job.
