Really NASBA???

I just wanted to post something here in case other people ran into this problem.

If you’re an exam candidate in certain NASBA states, and you pass your last part, NASBA does not provide your scores to your State Board until the month following the end of the window. Using myself as an example, I took my last exam April 19 and got my score May 3. NASBA is not going to notify my State Board until JULY 1!!!!!

Thankfully I’m not going to be penalized at work for NASBA being slow (I was supposed to have my license by July 1), but I just don’t get it. We pay all this money, and then have to wait forever for them to do anything. I don’t understand why they can’t notify State Boards each time there is a score release wave.

Just wanted to put this out there in case someone else runs into the same situation. If you have an inflexible deadline to get your license, be sure to account for this extra time required for NASBA to tell your State Board that you passed.

Also, this doesn’t affect all NASBA states – but CT is one that it does apply to.

Really? I emailed by state board to find out about that because I was trying to determine whether I need to “sit” within 18 months (and pass), or if the end of the 18 months was calculated when you “receive” your last score. They told me I needed to sit within 18 months, and that they will get the scores 3-4 weeks after NASBA notifies me of the score. I'm in Florida.

Actually FL appears to be one of the exceptions so you're lucky.

For NASBA states that do one “completed exam notification” per quarter, the dates are:

    January/February testing window: April 1

    April/May testing window: July 1

    July/August testing window: October 1

    October/November testing window: January 1

Yea, I'm getting promoted and was supposed to have my license in hand before the promotion. Thankfully I'm still getting promoted. Work decided since I could prove I had been very proactive about this process and that it was all NASBA holding me up, that they wouldn't penalize me for something I couldn't control. I made sure I was in wave 1 of this window just so I would be done in plenty of time. I never would have guessed I'd be waiting an extra 2 months just for NASBA to tell the board I had passed.

My goal is to pass my last exam in November. Once I receive my score, I'm going to apply for my license. My state (CA) is changing the requirements to become a CPA as of 1/1/14… so will this be a problem for me? The Board just says they need to get my app by 12/31/13 to qualify. Anyone know? Thanks!

That's not true for Louisiana. I got my final score online 3/8/13 and the LA State Board had my paperwork before the end of the month. I had my letter in my hand on 4/1. Our letters were mailed by NASBA to the State Board 3/26. I went back and checked the dates on the e-mails I sent and received. License # was issued by the State Board 4/3. Maybe it depends on the NASBA State Coordinator. I don't have a clue.

Thank you Kricket for the clarification for Louisiana. I read this thread earlier today and was a little upset.

I am hoping to be done in July and have my license in August.

I also found out the same thing from NASBA. Congratulatory letters won't be mailed out until July 1st.

That's 2.5 months after taking my last exam.

@Marisol310 and anyone interested in CA…

I emailed the board and they said if I took the exam in late November, both the board and myself should receive notice of my score around December 7. So as long as the app is in by 12/31/13 and all other requirements are met, it should be fine.

But just a warning, the board has given me incorrect info before…

    AUD 10/2/13 - 92

    I guess I don't feel bad being in a non-nasba state now.

Sure, my scores get released a little later than nasba states but i don't have to deal with that horrendous last test lag.

Sorry to everyone in nasba states.

This question would be along the same lines:

if my REG expires on 1/31/14 and I take my last test on 1/2/14 but don't get my score until 2/5/14, will it count to me passing all 4 parts? This is of course assuming that I pass. (my logic here is that if I took the test on 1/2/14 and pass it, I should have all 4 parts passed prior to 18 months right?)

I received my final score on June 8 and just received my congratulatory letter today. It was dated June 17. July 1 must be an approximate date. I took the exam in Delaware, an NASBA state.

    REG - 11/5/2012 - 80
    BEC - 1/17/2013 - 76
    AUD - 2/22/2013 - 70 4/5/2013 - 75
    FAR - 5/28/2013 - 75 - Done!!!

Question: What do you call someone who only gets 75's and 76's on the four parts of the CPA exam?

    Answer: A CPA

Timing definitely depends on the state. I took my last exam on 4/19, received my score on 5/3, and STILL haven't received my congratulatory letter!! And CT BOA still doesn't have my scores, which is the only thing holding up my license at this point.
