Question about the expiration for Application of intent

I got the application approval from Texas board in June,2010.

I took two exams in last year, but failed both. After that, I was stuck in other things and didn’t apply for any NTS till now.

So, is there any expiration date for me to take the exams in any day of future? Does the application of intent expire??

Because I didn’t pass any part, so I don’t have the “deadline” to take the exam. Is my understanding right??

    Thank you for help.

The 18 month window does not begin until you pass your first exam, so for you this has not started yet.

You're previous application to sit for the exam is only good for ONE NTS. You must reapply each time you need a new NTS. In CA, there is a different fee for first time applications, and repeat applicants. Also the processessing time for a repeat application is usually less.

So if you want to sit for another section, you will need to reapply to the Board before you can receive a new NTS.

I live in TX too, and I know that their state CPA site is confusing. The application of intent is good for only 90 days. However, the subsequent applications are supposed to be approved more quickly than the first one. I think this period of shorter reapplication times is 2 years but don't hold me to that.

CalCPASoon, thank you, i thought you are right. I don't have the “18 months” count down.

Kb24, the 90 days you mentioned is called eligibility application. However, my concern is about if there is expiration duration for the application of Intent (the first step you submitted all the stuff to board).

TX board requires candidate must take at least ONE exam within two year period, but it doesn't mention how long the application of intents will remain active if you took at least one part. So, for me, I took two parts, but didn't pass one yet. if I want to retake it three years later from now, Do I have to start over in first step to apply or just apply NTS as an existing candidate?

sixth sense – sorry, misread your question. Went back and looked at the TX site and see why you're confused. My assumption would have been that the 2 year period expired if you hadn't passed all 4 parts of the exam during that time. However, the FAQ it says that it expires in 2 years if you haven't taken the exam at least once–nothing about if this means one section or the entire test or if you need to pass it. You can log in on the TX CPA site and look at your examination qualification screen. It shows the expiration date of the application of intent.

My understanding from talking to someone else who started this process long before I did is that the original application lasts 10 years.

From personal experience, I sat for my first exam in Q4 2007, and my application was still valid 3 years later when I started again in Q4 2010.

ETA: Forgot to say that my application is with the Texas Board.

Don't know what it was in 2007, but the current info on the TX CPA website is 2 years unless you've taken the exam at least once. Unclear whether this means one exam or all four, if you have to pass or simply take an exam, or how long the application lasts if you take an exam.
