Please Help. CA Canditate last sec.12/4/13, must complete application in 2013

    Hi,

I need to complete my application process in 2013 under Pathway 1 as California is changing the education requirements on January 1, 2014. I have passed 3 of the 4 exams, and am sitting for my final section, Regulation on December 4. Per score release, I will not get my score until around December 20. With the holidays, I think I’d be cutting it too close to start the application process that close to year end.

I have reviewed the CBA website and other posts on this forum. However, I would greatly appreciate some input on the nuances listed below.

    1) Can I apply for licensure after taking my last section before finding out my score (i.e. submit the application on December 5th, right after I sit for the exam) ?

    2) Can I request my former supervisor to complete and submit my Experience form before I have passed my final section of the exam? I’ve read from many it could be a tough process getting the necessary sign-offs. I don’t think December 20-31 is enough time to get the sign-offs.

    3) Assuming I did not get the sign-offs by December 31, could I officially “apply” without including the Experience form? For instance, could I pay the fee, mail the application, and then simply submit the Experience form in January 2014, while getting credit for 2013 application submission?

    4) Are there any other challenges you can foresee with this very tight timeline for me to complete my application in 2013?

Your advice is very much appreciated, even if commenting on only 1 of my above questions. This whole process is a very tough journey as we all know. Thanks again for your help.

Ugh, I wrote a long post and lost it! 🙁 I'm on Kindle fire…. your supervisor will sign off on your experience and he/she will have to mail in the form so as long as you meet all requirements you can apply. I think the date of exam counts as meeting deadline, not the date you get the score. You might call CBA to get the confirmation.

    Hi –

I'm in the exact same position as you are. I think it'll be a challenge, but it's doable.

    1) The handbook doesn't say anything to the contrary. I believe you can submit all the paperwork before you have the results back. The only problem is that you might have to redo it in case you didn't pass and need to redo your application.

    2) Yes – that is independent from passing the exam. I was advised to wait until I passed all sections, but I wasn't told I can't do it. So it's a matter of what your supervisor's preference is.

    3) No, because your application would not be complete. The way I understood it is that you need a complete application in 2013, otherwise you'll have to comply with 2014 guidelines.

    4) Other challenges: the PETH exam, fingerprints, picture … you have to have everything ready to go before 12/31, so I would carefully read through the handbook (https://www.dca.ca.gov/cba/publications/applbook.pdf) to ensure you have everything you need. You can already start sending in your paperwork, etc.

CBA told me I can submit my application before they receive my work experience form but I'll call them to double check. Honestly, I can't bug my manager about my form and there is no way for me to know when they signed it 🙁

I took ethics exam while waiting on my last score. Order pdf book and spend 2-3 days on it. Search for tips on how to pass it on this forum so you can be done within 3 attempts! Take a picture in advance too. So you'll just have fingerprinting left the day you get your last score!

Did CA not pass the bill that allows for an extension of pathway 1 if you pass all 4 tests by 12/31/2013? I thought they did, which from my understand, would allow you more time to gather your other requirements.

I also heard that CA just passed a bill allowing people that passed all 4 parts of the exams can grandfather the current paths until end of 2015. You should ask CBA for confirmation and detail.
