Pennsylvania Inital Application Question

I passed the CPA exam in October, 2010 but did not meet the work experience requirement. Because of limited opportunities in auditing and assurance with my employer I am not able to reach the 800 hour auditing experience requirement through the PA State Board of Accountancy. To counter this I chose to pursue my MBA in order to achieve 150 credit hours and cut my auditing hours in half. I will achieve 150 hours in August and my MBA in December of 2013. According to my State Board, if I apply before October 2013, I will be able to forgo the CPE requirements in the initial application, but will be required to renew my license by December 31, 2013 and show 80 CPE hours upon renewal. If I apply after October 2013, my license will not need to be renewed until December 31, 2015, but I will be required to show 80 CPE hours. This is very confusing to me, I feel like I’m taking the exam all over again.

My understanding is that you can not take all 80 hours in one year, that you need to take at least 20 hours/ year. How can I achieve this? Will I have to wait another year to get licensed?

Is it possible for my MBA course to count as CPEs and toward my 150 hour requirement at the same time? If that is the case, problem solved, I only need auditing and tax and I am gravy!

If anyone has any insight on this it would be greatly appreciated!!!

    BTW…

I am not in Pennsylvania and don't want to give you any incorrect guidance, so my advice is to call the State Board and discuss this with them. Ask them how long you have to get licensed before you lose your scores. That varies from state to state. In some states, they never expire, but I've read that other states do expire. I have no idea about Pennsylvania. My experience with the Louisiana State Board has always been positive. They are very helpful. Hopefully, Pennsylvania will be the same for you! Good Luck!
