Outlining

Is anyone outlining study material? It seems like outlining is helpful, but it takes so long… anyone else in the same position? I learn by writing and I know if I write it down I’ll stick it to memory, but it slows me down and I want to pass BEC. Let me know any suggestions… maybe I’m missing a step in my study process. I normally read the chapter, outline, do the class questions and start the homework questions if I have enough energy…. I’m using Roger books, seem to be pretty detailed, but I need to write it to remember it! Any advice would help. Thanks!

Yes. You answered your own question. Outline, take notes, write it in a notepad, however you want to “phrase” it, just do it. Yes it takes time, which sucks but if it is the best way for you to learn it, you have to do it. It is what I ultimately had to do to learn. I tried the easy way and ended up failing. By looking for an excuse not to write everything out, you are looking for a reason to avoid it. Unless your brain is a sponge which never leaks, then just read. But if you are like most people, you are just going to have to write it down.

I find it helpful, but for BEC, I would really make a formula sheet(s) of all the formulas and make a few copies of it

I have to outline. Otherwise, I won't learn. I even outline answered incorrectly MCQs. Helps to remember. I am using Gleim.

I am using Becker and taking notes would not be beneficial for me. Their books are basically outline format already so all I'd be doing is re-writing what's in the book. I learn from doing question after question and re-reading the text after the lectures, circling, highlighting, underlining, and writing very short notes in the book. Eventually it sticks. Works for me. But we're all different.

I used Becker. I typically wrote out 16 to 18 pages of notes per chapter (I know, probably a little excessive)… but I do find it helps you remember it… plus it's a nice way to have summarized notes for your final review without having to flip through the entire Becker book.

    Good Luck!

    BShep,

I am also using Becker. I have done notes for Ch. 1, 3, and 4 (around 18-20 pages each). I am using Jeff's Econ notes and I need to do it for Ch. 5, but it is just so long that I have not brought myself to start yet. I have heard people say that they created a page with all the formulas on it, I should do that too. I know it would definitely help me to start memorizing all the formulas if I carried them around with me constantly to review.

    FAR 10/28/10 80 (157 hours)
    REG 1/7/10 extended to 1/17/10 78 (130 hours) I'M DONE!!!!!!!!!!!!!

Definitely make that formula sheet. I would usually make a 2-3 page final summary of things I knew I needed to remember. It'll help cram those fine details and is good to look over in the parking lot right before you begin your test. Are you using flashcards?

Yeah I bought the flashcards, and I keep them in my purse at all times to have with me.

    Ness,

Did you buy Becker flashcards? I think I might need flashcards to as a quick refresher. Good luck studying 🙂
