I signed up and bought materials to take the CPA exam in 2007. I never took it or studied due to some personal issues. Now that I am unemployed, I am looking to take FAR and maybe REG this next quarter. Do you think I can just use my 2007 books and online resources, or should I purchase new books?

No – especially not with 2007…Pensions were calculated a different way (ABO vs PBO), that was Pre-SFAS 141(R).

I honestly wouldn't spend the time on the exam unless you invest in new materials – and you might as well get 2011 materials.

Otherwise, it's just wasted time and effort I think. The exam is too difficult to study with old materials.

The worst mistake that I ever made was studying with old materials. I failed FAR and wasted one year using old materials. After I threw out all of my old text books and review materials, I passed the next three exams, including FAR.

Sorry, but 2007 materials are too old to study with. Like Jeff said, you might as well order 2011 books.

    REG 79 (Becker); BEC 63 (Becker) 70 (Yaeger); AUD 66 (Becker; 11/30 - Becker); FAR 11/24 (Yaeger/Wiley)

I have used 2006 books and 2009 CD's….I looked at the PDF copies of the 2009 books and I compared them to my 2006 books and they are identical….obviously the question may be different but I have no way of knowing that because I only have the 2009 CD's….obviously if you get the new material there will be no issue….but I have found that the exams are high level and do not get into some of the finer details that may results due to changes…again you may get burned on the odd question…but that is few and far between….but for the cost savings compared to the chances that there will be dramatic differences….I went with the savings….as opposed to dropping ridiculous coin on new stuff…that being said if you will feel more comfortable with new material go with that….cant put a price on peace of mind

    FAR (75)
    AUD (76)
    BEC (75)
    REG (72), (80)
