I have a business question for everyone here. Someone I know has a start up business in the developmental stage. It's incorporated, so she requires an audit by a CPA firm that is registered with PCAOB. She has sent me backups of her QuickBooks file and asked if I could clean up her books to prepare for the audit. She wants a price estimate, but I honestly have no idea. I was thinking along the lines of $50 per hour, estimating 5 hours for a total estimate of $250. What do you guys think? Am I going too high, undercutting myself, or just right?

I think $50/hour is totally reasonable, could be even higher.

Btw, why would the CPA firm have to be registered with PCAOB? Is the company an issuer (doesn't sound like)?

Thanks for the input. On a side note, I thought this was funny: Like I said, she sent the QuickBooks files, but she also felt the need to send, in a separate pdf, the detail of her Professional Services Expense account. Maybe she's sending a hint 🙂
