NYS Requirements

I just had a few questions about applying for the license in NY (sorry for the redundancy if any of this has been asked already):

    1) I only have to send in Form 1 with a check for $377, right? For Form 2, I already had the 150 credits approved before I sat so I don’t think I need to send that one in. For Form 3, i took all 4 parts in NY’s jurisdiction so I shouldn’t have to send that one in. For Form 4b, my supervisor will be sending that in. There aren’t any other forms right?

    2) Can i send in the forms before I get the congratulatory letter? I just got the score notification for BEC this morning so I am not sure how much longer it would take to get the congratulatory letter.

    3) I saw in another post one of the responses was to “Email NASBA( CPAES-ny@nasba.org) to make sure they sent over your transcripts” So in the email, I am asking NASBA to send the transcript to the New York State Education Department? Will my scores for the 4 parts be sent over automatically or should i ask NASBA to send them over as well?

    Thank you in advance!

You send in the Form 1 with the check. Your supervisor sends in the Form 4B.
I am not sure if you need the Forms 2 or 3, I'd suggest checking the NYS website for instructions again, but I don't think you need those 2.
I would send in the application immediately. NYS is currently running 14-16 weeks, so get your place in line as soon as possible.
I would also highly suggest you double check with NASBA on both the transcripts and scores. Its better to be safe than sorry, especially since you will be waiting 4 months for an answer from NYS, and most likely will not hear of any problems until you proactively contact the NYS Board yourself.
I'm a bit jaded by the whole process (currently at 19 weeks myself).

Yeah I completed form 1 today and will be sending tonight. That is awful having to wait so long. I do not understand why they make it such a drawn out process. I already had to wait 2 and a half months for my score from quarter 2 this year and now I'm going to have to wait another 4 plus months for the license. This is ridiculous

I was told they lost their primary reviewer and a support staff, so the workload is falling on someone else who also has to do their own work at the same time.
They have not been able to rehire anyone so far, but the latest CPA Board meeting, one of the topics on the agenda was staffing.
I would assume NYS has a hiring freeze and that is crippling the CPA Board from being able to rehire/replace staff.
If you have political connections it might be worth a call or letter to your state rep. Squeaky wheel gets the oil and all.
I would recommend you overnight your Form 1, so 1, you have proof of when it was delivered, and 2, you save yourself a couple days in line. Its worth the 14-20 dollars.

Do you work in Newburgh by any chance? I know a large firm in that area uses Wiley for their staff.

No I work in Long Island. The only reason I chose Wiley is because it was cheaper then Becker and my firm didn't pay/ reimburse me for it.
