NYS licensure with private experience only

If anyone out there has recently passed their CPA, grandfathered under the 120 credits rule and works in a private industry (no prior public experience) can you please share your license application experience?

My issue is that my circumstance is all of the above, and I have several controllers here who can sign form 4B, but they are all inactive NYS CPA’s. One is active, but is licensed in New Jersey. There’s only one person left in my company who is an active, licensed NYS CPA but I want to make sure I have all my ducks in a row before asking her to sign.

Did anyone have any issues with the experience requirement when applying for the 2 year private industry? Did you try to make your experience as diverse as possible? Or did anyone keep to a few core categories they deal with and not work longer than the 2 years to get a more diverse work experience?

Any advice before I have to file the forms would be a huge help

Do they require the CPA signing to be linensed in the state you are applying? I don't remember reading that.

It says “under the supervision of a certified public accountant licensed in one of the US Jurisidictions or a public accountant licensed in New York State”, but a lot of other posts here say they had issues getting the license when the signor has their license from a state other than the one you're trying to obtain.

Yup. You have to have your Form 4B signed off by a NY licensed CPA.

If you work in private, then none of the listed work experience will apply to you (it's catered towards people in public)

So the only option is to check “Other” and attach a summary of accounting/finance related task/responsibilities.

    FAR - 86
    REG - 85
    BEC - 90
    AUD - 84
