Hi everyone,

So earlier this week, I found out that I passed the last section of the CPA exam. I have taken a year off in order to focus on accomplishing this feat. When I was looking for jobs after I passed the 3rd section, I was unable to get a lot of interviews for an Entry level or Associate level role.

My question is, now that I have passed the last section of the CPA exam, will companies now want to interview me, or will I have the same luck as before?

I'm sorry to be the one to tell you this, but if you didn't get any interviews after 3, you probably won't get many more after 4. Try networking like crazy this summer and then apply during September when Fall Recruiting season starts. Good luck to you….

Aron I am in the same boat as you except I have three more exams to pass. I quit a job in retail to pursue the CPA exam. I don't think that things are as dire as CPjAson makes things out to be.

I sometimes have my doubts about whether people hiring for private accounting jobs value the CPA exam with no experience. I do know that public accounting firms might take a look at you. The problem is that your nine months out from the recruiting season.

If I were you I would start learning accounting software programs. You can get certified for Quickbooks and that should help your chances in the private industry. After that you could look into learning larger accounting software programs. You may want to look at temp agencies as well like accountemps. My plan is to stack stack up technical skills after i pass the CPA.

You may also want to apply to the IRS and other state and federal jobs.

I work for the California State Board of Equalization making as much as my coworker with an AA degree. Lol. Time for a change!

Network like crazy and really market yourself. Volunteer at a chamber of commerce, tell people at church, use linked in, etc. You might read books like “The Power of Who”. Small firms are often more willing to hire you than big firms. Knowing QB is good advice and if you can, read up on Prosystems. Good luck!
