For those who works in non public, what specifically do you do to qualify for the general accounting experience? I’ve got an offer to work in a public traded company, as a staff accountant, the job description says it’s a typical accounting position, bank reconciliations, month end process, journal entries etc. My supervisor is not an active licensed CPA, but the CFA of the company is.

will i be qualified to apply for CPA license after two years working for the company, let’s say the CFA is willing to sign for my application?

    n

I am in California and i just passed the CPA exam.n

    CACPA,

    n

Just got my license in CA, I work in non-public for an insurance company. I was too concerned about this. What is important is that the signee is an active CPA. So it would be good to double check their status. My boss also has no public accounting experience but is an active VA CPA. The CA BOA will double check that the person who signs for your report is an active CPA.

    Hope this helps!!n

Thanks 75 CPA. Can you be more specific about what you do at your job? The handbook from accountancy board says very little about what kind of jobs will fall under “general accounting experience” and is very vague about it.

    n

But i assume being a GL accountant normally means you will perform general accounting duties, right?n

I do general accounting, journal entries, financials, bank recs, AR/AP research, etc. I don't think they actually dig too deep into this, I think they are just looking for the signature.

    This is from the handbook,

    n

“General experience includes providing any type of service or advice involving the use of accounting, attest, compilation, management advisory, financial advisory, tax, or consulting skills.”

    n

Hope this helps , most likely you fall into thisn
