Hello all! I called the NJ board today and found out that my application has been approved. I should be expecting a mail from them soon… FYI, I mailed in my application on July 29th (not bad..eh?)

Already planning on taking the Ethics course soon!

At what point can I call myself a CPA? When I have a license number?

Hang in there, will be soon, but you can't call yourself a CPA until you have a license number.

    AUD -49, 71, 84
    REG -56,75!
    BEC -75

Massachusetts CPA (non reporting) since 3/12.

    @CPA789,

    congrats, very-soon-to-be-CPA!

I am NJ CPA candidate just like you, and got licensure approval letter on 8/30, and sent them initial application fee on 9/4.

What confused me was that when I called NJ state board on the week of 8/19, they said the board meeting will be held on 9/19. but they approved for my licensure. Then what is the board meeting for? Is it for them to sign on my license and mail it to me?

    Currently:
    CPA - Class of 2013
    ALMI (Associate, Life Management Institute)
CISA - Passed in 2011, Certified in 2014

    In Progress:
ASA (Associate of Society of Actuaries) - EXAM P (O), EXAM FM (O), EXAM MFE (X), EXAM MLC (X), EXAM C (X)

@super I was confused about this too. Apparently NJ does not:

(from the NJSCPA Exam FAQs page: https://www.njscpa.org/index/students/cpa-exam/faqs )

“Does New Jersey require that you take the ethics exam in order to become a CPA?

No. However you are required to take the approved 4-hour New Jersey Law & Ethics CPE course within the first 6 months of licensure. The CPE certificate must be mailed to the NJ State Board of Accountancy within 30 days of taking the course.”

The classes range from $89 to $279, depending on if you're a member of the NJSCPA.

I received an email from NJ state that they cannot give any time line to process license application. Anybody else has received similar response from state? Assuming all requirements are met, how soon can I expect my license from NJ state?

    FAR done
    BEC done
    REG done
    AUD - done

    AICPA Ethics - done

Hey all, how long did your NJ CPA licensure take? I found out I passed my last part last Wednesday, I called yesterday (1 week after my score) and she said it could take up to 6 months and they didn't receive my scores from NASBA yet, even though I see them on the NASBA website. What is the process?

    Thanks!!

    1. With Becker classes, and no real effort at home. 2. FAR- CPA Excel- studied hard 3. Didn't touch the material, just took the exam because I paid for it. 4. With CPA Excel, then Becker, and NINJA. 5. Becker with NINJA notes and audio. 6. Becker and NINJA Notes
    AUD 1. 05/20/09 39 3. 12/04/13 42 5. 11/15/2014 86!!!!! 🙂
    BEC 1. 05/14/09 51 3. 12/02/13 63 6. 11/30/2014 77!!!!!!!!!! I'm complete!! 🙂
    FAR 1. 01/12/09 61 2. 08/26/13 74 4. 08/27/14 81!!!!!!! 🙂

Took a good month or two for them to send the documentation after I passed the exam. I had sent some that I printed from the website before I received any word from them. After a lot of back and forth nearly 4 months later my application was approved. Now I have to send CPA fee and they will return me with my License number we'll see how long this takes.

    Far: 76 (Wiley Test Bank)
    Aud: 77 (Wiley Test Bank)
Reg: 61, 76 (Wiley book, Wiley Test Bank)

I read on the Board's website they will send an application upon receipt of scores. But from what it appears, I could just apply now even before the Board is notified? I just found out I passed my last section Tuesday, I have no idea how long it will take the State to find out.

For those interested, it took me just about 2 months for my application to be approved and that was without any issues of missing documents, etc. I submitted everything mid Nov.

I mail my payment on 1/16/18. They processed it on the 19th. I didn't see my license # online (cpaverify.org) until 1/23 but the issue date according to the site was 1/22.

Still haven't received the certificate in the mail. Hoping it's an actual wall certificate and not the size of an auto insurance card…

Either way I feel the whole process didn't take too long. I'm excited to officially be called a CPA and I still want to thank everyone who helped me with my exam questions in the past. Hope to see more Jersey CPAs in this forum.

Update: I received my license yesterday from the Division of Consumer Affairs. It's a little larger than an auto insurance card. Thought that was the end of it.

Wall certificate does actually get mailed out. My friend received it 4 months after he received his license while the state board said it could take up to 9 months.
