If you live in New York State, have you taken accounting classes at Louisiana State University (LSU) online? If so, did they count towards the 33 credits in accounting requirement for CPA licensure in NY? Before I sign up, I would just like to ensure there are no issues with regards to the credits being counted.

Also, please let me know when you took these classes. If there were any issues with NY and LSU let me know.

    Thanks!!

Hello, Im in NY I took extra classes at my college to get to 150 before starting the CPA Exam, I heard many candidates “clepped” using those online classes for credits and they were excepted the extra credits needed,

My question is how to get the 1 required credit/class needed in NY, any one know?

I am in the same boat. I need 3 credits in accounting. I tried to email nasba but no answer yet. My understanding from http://www.op.nysed.gov/prof/cpa/cpalic.htm is that the school needs to be accredited in business AND accounting. LSU is only accredited in business. Am I understanding correctly? I went to https://www.aacsb.edu/accredited and searched for schools accredited in business and accounting.

The educational requirements for obtaining a CPA license in New York State are determined by the New York State Board of Accountancy. To be eligible to sit for the CPA exam in New York, an individual must have completed 150 semester hours of college education, including at least 33 semester hours in accounting courses and 24 semester hours in business-related courses. The accounting courses must cover topics such as financial accounting, auditing, taxation, and management accounting.

In addition to the educational requirements, individuals must also meet certain work experience requirements in order to qualify for CPA licensure in New York. They must have completed one year (2,000 hours) of accounting experience under the supervision of a licensed CPA, which can include experience gained through internships, part-time work, or full-time employment.

Once an individual has met the educational and work experience requirements, they can then apply to take the CPA exam, which is administered by the American Institute of Certified Public Accountants (AICPA). Upon passing the exam and fulfilling any additional requirements, such as completing an ethics course, they can then apply for a CPA license in New York State.
