need advice – section about to expire

    hey everyone,

i could use a little advice. i just took what is hopefully my last section on 10/31. passed 3 out of the 4 sections, hopefully i will find out my score on this last section (AUD) in the first wave in a couple of weeks.

my question is, if i am not in the first wave of results, i won’t find out my score until mid-december. one of the 3 sections i’ve passed is due to expire in early january. should i go ahead and register for the AUD exam again and assume the worst? if i wait until the 2nd wave to register, i don’t think that gives me enough time to pay my fees and get my NTS. has anyone ever been in this situation?

has anyone ever assumed they failed and went ahead and re-registered for an exam before they got their results?

any and all advice is appreciated!

I haven't had this situation but I really wouldn't recommend paying for a new NTS. If you pay for the new NTS & get your passing score in mid-Dec, they won't give you a refund. If you want to do something, maybe study for the section but I wouldn't want to spend the $ until you know for sure. Just my 2 cents though 🙂

I may be up against the same problem in the future if I don't pass FAR. I don't know about your state, but in CA we have to reapply to the state (and send $50 to them) to sit for another exam. That is the part that can take a long time. In my experience once the state has given the OK, it does not take long at all to pay NASBA for the exam online and for them to email the NTS. I wouldn't pay for the exam until you're sure you have to, but have all your ducks in a row so you can make sure you can get the NTS as quickly as possible. Do you have to reapply with the state like in CA?

Thanks for your help! I guess I am just being paranoid. I am actually in CA also, so I may just pay 50 bucks to register for the exam if I am not in wave 1. That way I will be ready to go as soon as i find out about wave 2.

Honestly, if i end up paying for another exam early and i end up passing this one, i will be so relieved that the 2 or 300 bucks i blow won't make me that upset. I will be relieved more than anything to be done!

Just to give you a sense of the urgency i am feeling, 2nd wave results might be out around dec 21 and i need to take the exam by jan 2 if i don't pass this time.

Yeah, I'm paranoid about it too, and it wouldn't bother me much either if I ended up losing the exam fees in exchange for a pass.

But in CA you can't pay the exam fees until your score is reported anyway. After your score is reported and after you've reapplied, that extra tab will appear at the top of your account screen that tells you to select an exam. Then they transmit that info to NASBA, and you get a notice to pay the fees.

If it comes down to it, do your best to stay on top of it, check your state account multiple times per day for that extra tab because it can appear before they notify you that you can make your selection.

You should call the BOA and ask if you can reapply for an exam for which your score is pending. It's unclear on the website, see below.

From the START tab on the online account (near bottom of screen):

“Candidates will ONLY be allowed to choose those exam sections for which an ATT HAS NOT previously been sent to NASBA or those sections for which a candidate sat and received a failing score. If a candidate submits an application with the $50 reapplication fee prior to receiving ALL PENDING scores, and the candidate wants to later add an additional failed or untaken section, he or she will be required to submit another application and pay another $50 reapplication fee.”

I can't tell if they are just trying to save you $50 and/or that you can't even reapply until you receive the score. I think I'll call them too.

Thanks for the info, Tim. Wow, it looks like I might be SOL if I am not in wave 1. If the CA board does not allow me to request an authorization to test (ATT) while I'm waiting for my score, there's no way I can request the ATT, get the ATT approved, get my notice to schedule (NTS) from NASBA and schedule my exam with Prometric in a span of 10 days. Ugh. I really hope I passed and that I am part of the first wave.

Appreciate the helpful info. Good luck to you, too!

Yeah, it's complete BS how slow they move in Sacramento especially since they make us go through this reapplication process. And on top of that they're closed like every other Friday now.

Let's hope you passed. Otherwise you're only hope for that short time frame is that they'll process your reapplication before you receive your score.

I think there is actually a little confusion on this in regards to CA's policy. You can reapply before your score is reported but if you are waiting for MULTIPLE scores and only reapply for ONE section, then find out you failed TWO sections, you have to reapply and pay reapply and pay an additional fee for the other failed section.
