    BEC - N/A
    FAR - 54, 73
    REG - N/A

    Hi Laura,

Can you commment on whether additional states (such as California) will join the NASBA Experience Verification service?

It has been over a year since the service launched, but no additional states seem to have joined the service?

    Thank you!

    Hi Laura,

For NYS, does the work experience only count after you have passed all 4 exams & after the 150 credits requirement has been met? I have currently passed 3 out of 4 (waiting on the 4th) and plan on going to grad school in the fall because I only have 120 credits as of now. I have worked for a CPA firm for almost 2 years now. I was under the impression that this wouldn't count yet but hopefully you can tell me otherwise!

    Thank you, much appreciated!

    Hi Laura,
I passed my exams in aug 2017 from CA. I only have tax filing experience as registered tax preparer of 500 hours but not under supervision. Does it count?

    Thanks

I am struggling a bit to find a CPA to hire me, hence the desperate question, also it seems passing exam was easy but finding job under a licensed cpa is not so easy.

    Hi Laura,

I had a couple of follow-ups on your response above.

First, if the states eligible for the NASBA experience verification service are only states where we can get the experience signed off by any active U.S. CPA (as opposed to an active U.S. CPA who was our direct supervisor, like the California requirement), what are the advantages of using the NASBA service for someone who can have their experience signed off by an active CPA?

In other words, if I have an active U.S. CPA who can sign off on my experience for one of the 10 NASBA experience verification states (Washington, Montana, etc.), what do I get for my $500 by going through the NASBA experience verification service instead of going directly to one of those state boards?

For example, does the NASBA service help with the transfer of the CPA scores, and does it matter if the state you are transferring from is not a NASBA state for CPA Exam purposes (like California)? Could the licensing process be expedited by going through the NASBA service?

Second, I accessed the ALL service you mentioned for $10 to research state requirements. When I logged on, I noticed that there is another service (for $45) that helps guide you through specific state requirements. Does the $45 cover the 3-month access to the database for all the states, or are you forced to pick a state when you pay the $45?

Thank you for all your help!

Hi, I'm re-upping this thread because I'm hoping to hear from someone who has used the NASBA experience verification. I do accounting but not under a CPA (not required in my jurisdiction of DC for licensure) and would just like to get a feel for what the interview/conversation is like, how long the process takes, what my supervisor's role in this is, etc. Thanks!!

It looks like Laura Humbert responded at one point, but deleted her posts. I believe she was actually the individual that I worked with for verification back in October – she was incredibly pleasant to work with.

The process is pretty straight forward. If I recall correctly they simply ask your employer/manager for confirmation of your job description and duties. Once they receive that they reach out via phone and just talk about the aforementioned responsibilities and how they tie into certain aspects of of the CPA exam (ethics, internal controls, etc).

All-in-all it was a super fast turn around for me. It took her a day or two to type of our interview (more just a formal conversation) and have it signed off and sent over. I then uploaded that for my verification and it was accepted without a hitch.

Laura was super knowledgeable about what the CPE requirements were in each state and had a lot of helpful tips on keeping up on it (as well as resources). Well worth the cost in my opinion.
