NASBA Credit Evaluation vs. NYSED

    Hello!

I submitted my application for the CPA License after finishing up some courses according to the credit evaluation I received from NASBA.

I received an email from the CPA Board (NYSED) stating that my business credit requirement is incomplete. The CPA Board did not count one of the classes towards the business credit requirement that NASBA had counted. Is there anything I can do to appeal the CPA Board’s evaluation or do I have to move forward and take another business class?….

    Thanks in advance!

    Hi, @Juskimdh

Im sorry to hear that you are having issues with your education. This was exactly what Im afraid of. Would you mind sharing why, or which type of course they dont approve?

You can try to fight it, but your chances are slim.
Maybe a junior or sub-staff made a mistake and thought 2 courses repeated themselves.
I'd try and do more research as to why it was rejected, and why you think it should not be. There are databases that compare courses for overlap.
If I were you I would try and fight it or get more clarification, but typically speaking the NASBA can't overrule the NYS CPA Board. The state has the final authority.
If you can back up your claim legitimately, you might have a shot.
Did they give you anything in writing? Do you have a valid claim?

I believe when I submitted my application it was initially rejected stating that I didn't have enough credits in one of the sections… I was understandably very upset but went to one of my professors and had them give an explanation in writing about how the course I had taken that wasn't being counted, actually satisfied the requirement. This was all Illinois stuff so I can't speak to what it would be like for NY, but for what it's worth it's possible. I hope you can get this changed, I was furious and felt like I just spent all this time and money and was under the impression it would suffice and then found it wouldn't!
