KY doesn't have a time limit on the work experience to my knowledge. A friend of mine worked out-of-country several years ago and when she called to ask about her experience, the BOA said that it would count. KY is also very generous about what work experience counts – it doesn't have to be public, doesn't have to be under a CPA (though a CPA who was active at the time the experience was gained and who is active now has to sign off/verify), etc. So, if you currently work in private accounting and have a CPA who does your annual audit that would be willing to sign off to verify that you have worked as a [fill in your title here] at your employer for the past year, that would meet the experience requirement for KY. This is the form that the verifying CPA would complete: https://cpa.ky.gov/Links/CertificateofExperience.pdf The page about initial license specifically states that the verifying CPA does not need to be a supervisor: https://cpa.ky.gov/becomingcpa/Pages/Initial-License.aspx When I was applying, I'd contacted them to verify (can't remember if it says on the website as well or not), but the verifying CPA does not need to be a fellow employee of the same organization or anything like that, either. I worked at an accounting firm with no CPAs (just taxes and bookkeeping); next door to us was a CPA firm. The CPA there signed off on my work experience, cause he saw me at work every day and we interacted enough that he knew I was truly doing accounting work on a daily basis, and that was fully acceptable to the KY BOA.
Additionally, KY CPE can be all self-study and is licenses are only renewed (so CPE only reported) every 2 years. So, something like CPE Depot's $149 unlimited self-study CPE courses would meet CPE requirements for KY…and since it's a 1 year subscription, you could get it for the last 6 months of one reporting period and first 6 months of the next, so get 4 years of CPE fulfilled for $149 (except CPE Depot doesn't have the ethics course, so you'd have to purchase that elsewhere, once for each reporting period). As I've read about other BOA rules on here, I've been very glad that I'm in KY!
You can probably request the experience form back from the OR BOA, but I think most states have a state-specific form, so not sure if the OR form will help you elsewhere or not. May not be worth the hassle of getting it back.
