I tell my friends that the CPA will guarantee I’ll never make below a certain salary in accounting. My quesiton is what do you think that minimum is for the rest of my life? 60k? 55k?

Im currently working in the industry and Im making 57K and I just got my CPA this month. Im in DC area so with the expense on metro probably net about 54K….but we usually get bonuses…we usually got 1.5k bonus for completing a sucessful audit and 1K at the end of the year…but with the bad economy this year…im not sure if we will get the year end bonus or any bonus next year.

My thoughts if you live in or within 30 mins of a major city:

If your not at $75k in 2-3 years or $90k in 5-6 years it's time to find another job.

I've worked with high school diplomas who make $45-50k….

$35k starting salary for a CPA credential is a joke and frankly an insult imo.

If they'll only pay you that then A) they expect you to leave in a few years and/or B) they have no intention of ever paying you what your actually worth.

I don't fault anyone for taking the $35k, everyone needs to eat, but I'd sure as hell keep searching for another job.
