    I tell my friends that the CPA will guarantee I’ll never make below a certain salary in accounting. My quesiton is what do you think that minimum is for the rest of my life? 60k? 55k?

    I don't think $100k is unrealistic. In fact, the way inflation is rising, we'll need to make $100k+ soon in order to have just enough to live off of, lol.

    Unfortunately most companies are giving crap raises that don't come close to keeping up with inflation. Or at least that's how it is at my company… Citing the economy as a reason.

    Kandis, same at my company. Entry level (as a portfolio accountant), regardless if you're a CPA or not, is $35k.

    50k with 3 yrs of experience is a good number….be willing to pay the price for a high pay salary job…more money=more hours at the office. At least, that is my experience….

    I have been specifically asked, point blank, what I'm currently making. I can't imagine a polite way to avoid stating a specific figure…

    Making 43k here as a second year auditor. I work in LA. A one bedroom apartment where you wont get shot costs more than 1k. I don't understand why I'm getting this salary. Ugh. Just gotta tough it out for one more year and then I'll be done with public accounting forever.

    @kandis how were you able to get a new job within 3 months of your first job? how were you able to take time off to attend interviews?

    @chakdey

    I'll let you know in January, when I start looking again. December is the worst month to look for a new job.

    Overall, there isn't much offered. It seems like companies are mostly looking for experienced people.

    NY here, making 60k at a large regional firm as an entry level staff. Big 4 around here pays 57k for audit and 59k for tax, +10k for having a masters in tax and a 5k cpa bonus.

    @CannotPassAgain – It was kind of weird… I started off interviewing for Company A, but they took a really long time to hire me, so I got nervous and applied for Company B while I was waiting to hear from Company A. Company A finally made me an offer about a month later, which I took since I wasn't sure if I was going to get the position with Company B. Company B wasn't going to be hiring for two more months (they only hired during one time during the year). About a month later, Company B called me and did a follow-up interview on the phone, then made me an offer a couple weeks later.

    That was back in 2007 so I am kind of guessing about the timing.. but I know it went something like that. :0) I felt really bad putting my notice in, but it was too good of an opportunity to pass up.

    I made 55K+ 6 yrs ago as a senior accountant and for a medium size now public company 30 miles from Boston. I quit since I had first kid, then came 2nd kid. I'm looking at $70K (I live near DC but I am not willing to work in DC). But who knows…I will wait for the employer to say the number first. My old boss offered me $85K + benefits though, but I can't move.

    @75

    I go to Chicago for work and love it there! Hoping to get the controller position there in a few years. I am what they call ‘high potential' at my company haha…not sure what they are smoking but I will take advantage of it!!
