I’m trying to submit my license application and there’s a hiccup with my experience verification form. My supervisor works out of Texas so I had to have him sign his portion and send back to me so I can sign since original signatures are needed. My issue is that he mailed it off last Wednesday and I’ve yet to receive it in the mail. According to the board, my application needs to be received 30 days prior to the quarterly meeting, which that deadline will be Tuesday since the meeting is April 24-27. I’m worried I won’t get my application in prior to the 30 day deadline and wanted to see if anyone else had gotten their application in after the deadline and still had their application considered for licensing. I really don’t want to wait until after July to get my license…

I wouldn't worry about it if I were you. The website says to have everything submitted at least 30 days prior to the board meeting, but even if you do, you probably won't have your license approved at the next meeting. For instance, I sent my application in about 45-50 days before the meeting, and it didn't make the agenda.

You won't have to wait until July to get your license, though. You will get your license whenever the staff at the State Board's office finish processing it, not when the Board approves it at their meeting. The Board merely ratifies your license at their meeting, they don't actually approve it. Mine took about 90 days/3 months to be processed — so 30 days is a long stretch. They really should update the website because they are misleading people by saying 30 days.

I'm an LA CPA by the way.

That sounds like a ridiculous process. Why don't you just ask your supervisor to print off and sign a new one and overnight it at your expense. Then you can overnight to your state board after you receive.

The Executive Director can approve your license without the Board meeting. It takes about 4 weeks from the time you submit it until your license shows up on the Boards website. Even if you don't get it in to them in time for the next board meeting, a license number can still be issued and then the Board will ratify the Executive Directors actions at the July board meeting. I submitted my application sometime around the first week in March 2013 and my license is dated April 3, 2013.

Great info, everyone. Thank you! I'm not sure if I like this Executive Director. My fiance has been trying to get community college classes approved since she's taken them after graduating and the ED has been on “medical leave” since December. She's called them several times and they've told her it's been an issue with bunches of other candidates too. If she's on leave then there should be someone to back her up. The licensing info definitely needs to be updated if the 30 day rule isn't actually followed. Very misleading. Thanks again for the info and I'm hoping for the best!

@y_u_no, I'll probably go ahead and do that. It seems to be taking a lot longer than usual for mail to cross neighboring states.

I wasn't aware that the ED was on medical leave! That explains why the Deputy Director hasn't approved my firm permit now. Poor woman is probably overwhelmed and overworked. Mr. Henderson was an awesome Director. I spoke with him several times before I passed the exam.

Really depends on when you submit it I think…mine took 7 weeks from the day I submitted and I got mine in 45 days before the board meeting…..my coworker got his in right around 30 days before the board meeting he got his license a few weeks after me…so again…right around 7 weeks.

So I am not that far off checking the LA State Boards website for my name. It's been 3 weeks since I sent in everything. What sucks is my boss refuses to give me my raise until I have a License No. >:( Thanks for the info.

Update in case anyone else from LA wanted a timeline. It took me about 8 weeks from my submission of my application to get a license number. Never thought this day would come…

Good to know. I still have to pass the exam before I can even get to this part. And I have no clue how I am going to gain experience since my ex boss left the company. No CPA's here….guess i'll have to figure it all out when the time comes.

I know it used to be where you needed 2 years of experience for your license and if you obtained it and left the company then you had like a 2 year window where your ex boss could still sign off for your experience. Now that we only need 1 year not sure if it was reduced the window to 1 year or gotten rid of all together. In either case good luck.
