Licensing- What takes so long?

I know at this point I’m just impatient and ready to get the letters but seriously, what takes so long to get licensed? VBOA has had all my info for over a week now. Everything in the “Candidate requirements” is marked complete but the CPA requirements has one unchecked section which is “Pass all 4 sections of exam.” The thing I don’t understand about this is that under “Candidate” all four sections are marked as complete individually so what takes so long to check the other box which is substantially the same? I know there are loads of posts about this topic so apologies if this is redundant. I just needed to rant a bit and ask if anyone knows the ins and outs of why the process takes a while even after they have all the info! Any ideas?

In my state, the State Board of Accountancy must approve the applications, and they only meet once a month since the Board is made up of volunteer members (CPAs in practice).

Just be relieved you are done with the HARDEST part which is taking and passing the exam. The rest is just nonsense.

Tripp, Where did you find the info about your state board having to meet and approve apps? I've looked on my board's website and can't find anything at all about their side of the process.

I called my professional licensing office in New York yesterday…they said they have had all necessary paperwork since October 22nd, and said it would be another 8 weeks before I saw it pass through to get officially licensed as a CPA. For a $377 processing fee (rip-off), you would think they could move a little faster wouldn't you.

I was told on the phone that was the process, and I really didn't believe it, and then I found my state board's minutes of meetings and low and behold, there was minutes approving license applications.

I emailed VBOA a few hours ago (shortly after I posted this) just be be sure I didn't need to submit any additional documents since everything was marked complete I assumed I had everything I needed BUT I received a reply that said I needed to submit the CPE Requirements Form. I signed the form and emailed it back. I have an active license number now so I suppose that's what they were waiting on. It's a good thing I emailed! Who knows how long it would have taken for them to let me know what else to submit!? I feel like the requirements checklist is a bit misleading since it leaves out that form. I'll know now to spread the word to my fellow VA candidates!

@Lucky WOW! That is a total rip off! I couldn't image paying that much and having to wait so long! I'd be pulling my hair out!
