Lack of retention

Has anyone had an experience leading up to FAR where they’ve been studying for seven weeks (as in, legit studying of 20-25 hours per week), and yet have just retained so little of what was studied? I did a mini-test using the Wiley software of basics through Bonds, and scored a 52%. That’s not too far off what I’ve gotten on most sample tests, or how I fare on MCQ. I’ve watched all the Yaeger lectures, took notes, did MCQs, etc.

My exam is in 2.5 weeks, on 4/30. At this point, I don’t see how I can realistically expect to pass. NTS expires in mid May, so I could plunk down another $35 and buy myself two more weeks.

    Back at it.

I just divided the material into two categories: the one i know by heart, and the one I don't know by heart lol. ultimately, when you know 70% of material by heart, you only need to spend the last 3 days to cram the remaining 30%

I felt the same way. I used Becker, and TRIED to supplement the harder topics with Wiley, but I was failing miserably… I think Wiley mcqs are either very basic or very hard. It's more important to understand how to do the problem or why the answer you picked was wrong than actually getting it right. I only had time to go through Becker mcqs twice (one first run, again during review) + maybe 3-4 times for marked mcq's in the sections I was having the hardest time with + a select few sections in Wiley. I took my time and read every answer until it made sense. Before my exam, I was confident that I knew the material that I knew very well, I just wasn't sure if it was enough. I didn't have time to go through the supplemental questions (because I spent so much time getting frustrated over my low Wiley scores) & even had some topics that I just couldn't retain, but I still passed! So, just keep drilling yourself through as many mcqs as possible & don't get discouraged when you see a low % as long as you can honestly say you understood the material when you're done.

I totally feel that way! I spent 170+ hours to take FAR in February and failed. I spent SO much time rigorously studying and when I would revisit a topic, I would do terrible. Sore in the 50’s on practice tests. When I started my final review before my exam, I felt like the material was so foreign. I use Gleim and have passed REG and BEC with it but a lot of people on here like Yaeger. I am going back and forth on whether to fork out 5 hundy for it though. With my second time thru Gleim, I am retaining a little more but we will see –it is taking me FOREVER to get thru because FAR is hard! I sit for FAR again may 2nd and I’m shaking in my boots!

    Good Luck!

Thank you everyone for the encouragement and tips. As MAC said, I'll just keep doing MCQs and Sims, and hopefully it will come together before exam day.

Molly – Sorry to hear about that. I think you and I are definitely in the same boat. When do you sit for FAR again?
