IL License Process

    Hi there,

I created this thread hoping to gain more clarification on the step-by-step process for applying for the CPA License in IL. I’ve seen numerous threads that broadly outline the process, but I was left a little confused. Hopefully someone can clarify my situation if I lay out what I “think” the process is….

So today I found out I passed my final section today (Woo!). I am officially done with all four exams. I have also:

    – Passed the Ethics exam, and my Ethics score does properly show on the online portal.

    – Have at least 1 year work experience. This wont be a problem.

Therefore, I’ve read that I must now wait for two things to occur:

    1) ILBOE needs to send my information over to the IDFPR (On the 1st or 15th business day).

    2) ILBOE needs to send me an emailed certification letter (Which I have not yet received).

Once these things occur, I am guessing the next step is to send the IDFPR application in via the mail (Waiting a few weeks after IDFPR receives the information from ILBOE.

So here’s my question. While I wait for all these things to occur, I have my BEC Exam expiring on November 29th. I am assuming that I won’t lose credit for this exam (Since I passed everything now). But part of me wouldn’t be surprised if something silly happened since the whole process seems a bit dysfunctional to me. Hoping someone who was in a similar situation can provide some clarity.

If there’s something I need to do now that I’m missing. Please help me out!

    Thanks!

You should get your certificate letter shortly. I found out I passed in the morning a couple months ago and received the letter before I left work that same day.

Your exams will not expire now that you have passed all four sections. I was not in a similar situation in regards to coming up on my first expiration, but they will not expire now that all are passed.

You need to fill out the application on idfpr https://www.idfpr.com/renewals/apply/forms/lcpa.pdf

Honestly, they say to wait 2 weeks and I waited, wished I hadn't. I was certified 9/10/15, mailed my application 9/25/15, and was licensed 11/17/15. The process is long, send the application as soon as possible.

    Hopefully this helps.

Has anyone else who passed their final section on the 24th not received their certificate yet?

Email the ILBOA asking for the certificate #. Once you get that send it in. Don't wait until the 1st or 15th when they send them to the IDFPR.

Have you checked to see if they have it on your online account?

Unfortunately, emailing the ILBOA isn't helping. I literally went back and forth with someone this morning who kept telling me to ‘check their website' without actually understanding that my question isn't specifically addressed on there.
Therefore, I called and spoke to someone who told me that it takes 2-3 weeks? (Not sure if he misinterpreted me by saying it took 2-3 weeks to send the hard copy certificate or the email). I was specifically asking about the email.

So I'm hoping someone else on here who passed the 24th could tell me about their experience. I just can't seem to get a straight answer to what I thought was a simple question.

A coworker of mine is still waiting for theirs. I received mine a few days after completing my ethics exam. Maybe they are delayed?

why is the idfpr page not working? i need to get the licensing application. Is it all online now? What is the fee? Is it still 120?

I have filled out my Licensure Application and am ready to send it to the IDFPR. But, before doing that, I just want to confirm that they haven't shifted to an online system of applications or something in the last couple months I haven't been able to access any page from their website. Nothing at all. Luckily, before I lost access to their website, I was able to save the Licensure application to my computer. So, I am just using that. But, it would be nice to get a confirmation from someone that the application is still the 4 page application with the 120 dollar fee. I hope nothing has changed. Can someone please confirm that? I shall really appreciate that.

Sorry for stupid question but I am confused.

I have passed last of my 4 uniform CPA exams in December 2015. And I have taken/passed ethics exam just today (May 2016).

Will my working experience start after passing of the 4th uniform exam or after all of them (Uniform exams and ethics)? I am working in accounting/ tax field for many years but wonder when the earliest I can apply for my IL license.

IDFPR website says: ‘The experience must have been gained after completing the education requirements for licensure'.

Could someone please clarify it for me?

Once you have completed the education requirements that make you eligible to sit for the exam is when you can begin counting your work experience.

Sounds like you probably have already fulfilled the experience requirement and should be able to proceed with the app to get your license.
