    Hey All,

Where can I read about what to do now that I passed the exam and the ethics part as well? I Know there’s a website out there, but I just want a list of steps to do. Any websites with a checklist or summary list that anyone found easier to follow than the confusing website the ILBOA site leads you to?

not sure about IL but i think they're quicker than most states getting the license out. perhaps call state board and speak to staff on next steps?

ilboa will mail you a letter after they evaluate your scores and ethics. call them and make sure they got your ethics score. i had to call aicpa and have them email it over and made sure ilboa rec'd it. you should be certified within a week or so after that. on the 15th and 30th they send over all new certifications to il dept of professional regulation. a few days after they receive your certification from ilboa you should be able to go to ildpr's site and register your certificate.

make sure you sign up to be a registered cpa before 6/30/12 as that class of license will not be given out after that time. you will be grandfathered into the regular cpa license, the one that otherwise requires 1 year of work experience.

I don't understand the difference between registered and licensed CPA. Apparently they grant the same rights.

And you still have to take CPE if you're registered, don't you?

Is there a renewal of the registration or it's a permanent thing?

Registered means no CPE or experience.

    Quote:

“An RCPA is a Registered Certified Public Accountant who is prohibited from practicing public accounting as defined in Section 450/8 of the Public Accounting Act. RCPAs are not required to obtain CPE. However, the RCPA can use the title Certified Public Accountant (CPA) and prepare tax returns and provide other professional services.”

    https://www.idfpr.com/FAQ/DPR/toggledpr_RCPA.asp

This basically means no audit or attest services. See 225 ILCS 450/8

    https://www.ilga.gov/legislation/ilcs/ilcs3.asp?ActID=1363&ChapterID=24

You also cannot represent anyone before the IRS.

Regular license requires CPE and experience, but you can audit, attest, represent someone before the IRS, and basically a full CPA.

With both registered or license you can use the CPA title in your business cards, e-mail, etc.

I'll try to be done before 6/30/12 to get registered. I'm not an auditor and don't really need the license, at least not for now.
