Hello I am new to this site and U am planning to take my first CPA test on 7/25/11 I will be taking FAR. I am studying with the Becker material and it is overwhelming does anyone have any suggestions as to how I should study is there anyone part that I should focus on more so than others?

I've been on this site a little over two months and have seen several posts on this topic in the main FAR thread as well as several individual threads. I'd recommend looking through those to see what ideas fit your study style and schedule. If you still have questions, feel free to ask. There are lots of people here who are happy to help.

FAR 4/1/11 - 89
AUD 4/15/11 - 85

simple answer – you have to focus on everything.

I'll try to give an outline of Becker material:

F1 (easy but some very important basics & IFRS is covered here)

F2 TOUGH (R&D stuff, acctg for construction projects, forex stuff, non-monetary exchanges)

F3 TOUGH if you havent taken adv accounting (marketable sec & consols.)

F4 ….not much that's new here (youve prob had this in your classes a lot) but focuses on inventory &deprec. methods

F5 TOUGH (bonds & capital leases)

F6 TOUGH (pensions / taxes)

F7 TOUGH (EPS stuff, Stockhlders Equity stuff, Statement cash flows stuff)

F8 & F9 TOUGH study thoroughly, GOVT/NFP lots of details, this can be up to 20-25% of exam according to CSO

the hard thing too is cumulative review because you get through a bunch of chapters and it's tough to get an overview of everything…SO MAKE SURE YOU LEAVE ENOUGH TIME FOR FINAL REVIEW

good luck FAR is probably the HARDEST OF ALL 4 sections. mile wide and inch deep. take the time and really prepare well for this one. leave enough time for final review. GOOD LUCK!

@High. Good stuff. I'm barely going through F1 and think there is a lot of information here.

Maybe you can answer this or not.. but on the exam isn't F1 the majority of testlet #1?

For the most part, Becker organizes its texts in the same order as the CSOs. The AICPA isn't so considerate with the exams.
