How To Work The System for 150 Units

So. I believe I found the biggest loophole there is to get 150 units. At a local junior college, there is a math lab that lets you take self-paced classes. In order to pass the class, you need to take a test or two. The math is all super easy math, with courses titled basic math, pre-algebra, elementary algebra, etc. I found out about this because I asked my dad, and he said he was able to get a semester’s worth of units in just a weekend.

With this in hand, I can become licensed this year!

Make sure you have covered the business/accounting credits required in your state before just taking a bunch of simple math classes.

@Partially Deaf – do you know if this works specifically for the CPA? The credit is equivalent to taking a regular full-semester course?

I'm currently enrolled in three classes that don't finish until May 31st to get my 150-unit requirement. Getting all those units within a few weeks would be amazing, I'd happily drop these three classes!

make_yourself, in some states (not sure what state the OP is in) the credits have to be earned in a degree program. This may well qualify but its just another thing to consider.

In California, they can be earned doing anything (which is so stupid)

I have to call them up later to work out the logistics, but I can blitz 20 units in just a week.

I'm in California as well, in LA to be exact. And yes, while one of the CA requirements to sit for the CPA exam is a bachelor's degree, you can earn the accounting/business units through any avenue. I was a Finance major in college, so I had the required business classes, but only had 12 accounting units. I was able to earn the remainder of my accounting credits by taking intermediate and advanced courses at a local community college.

@Partially Deaf – would you mind posting the information you get after calling OCC? If this will work in CA I'll definitely be dropping my two classes scheduled to start March 4th and doing this instead.

    Thanks!

So I spoke with a representative on the phone, and she said they have orientation today at 3:30 and 6:30. If you only need 2 classes, this may be the way to go, however it is a few more tests than I initially was told. They require 12 tests, but if the tests are all for pre-algebra and “basic math” then it shouldn't be challenging at all. You can take them all in one sitting.
