    Hi,

I am filling out the application form for licensing. And there is one asking for the “qualifying hours” I have. Anyone knows where I can find this information? Thanks.

Qualifying employment hours? I went to my HR department and had them send me my detailed time sheet info for the past three years. I weeded out vacation/sick time taken and submitted the net.

@taxgeek83 Ah, I assume that only audit counts as qualifying hour while I have none audit experience. Yet, I do have some audit experience at big four abroad, but I highly doubt that it will count..

It's going to depend on your state's requirements I think – my state is pretty broad, something like “skills a normal accountant would use.” (I'm highly paraphrasing here!) My experience is in tax, and it was acceptable. It's worth looking into. 🙂

Are you still applying for a non reporting license in MA, and are you sure you have the correct application form? If it is asking for experience hours (not education hours) you wouldn't put anything since there is no experience req. Be sure the header of the form says non reporting license application because it is different than the regular CPA license application.

Joy, do not assume when you are dealing with the CPA (generally, do not assume when dealing with any governmental entity). I have never audited and all my experience counted. Furthermore, the description for qualifying hours in my state included pretty much all accounting work.

My previous employer did not have a record of # of hours worked, so I asked the state licensing board about prorating standard hours (2080/year/12*months worked) and they agreed to let me use that.

    Good luck!

@mla11692 Yes, I am still applying for the non-reporting license. The qualifying hour question is not on the license application form but on my AECR application form for my transcript since I am transferring my score from NH jurisdiction to MA one. I assume that you did not have to do it (if so, you are lucky!!) AECR also asks me to mail them a copy of my congratulatory letter to confirm that I have passed the exams. Do you know when the letter might come? My friend said he received it within a month, but it has already been a month for me, but I still have not received it yet.

@coloradorit Ah, that is good for you! But different states might be different. I did not find the specific “qualifying hour” requirement on my state board, but I am going to call them to find out too. Hopefully they pick up the phone this time! But I think I read somewhere that MA only counts audit experience.

I did not have to do the AECR, so I'm not sure on that. I think the letter comes about a month after the end of the testing window so if your friend got his scores at the last score release of the window and you got yours before the window closed it might explain why yours seems to be taking longer.

And yes, MA only counts public accounting experience in attest.

Yes, different states, different requirements. That was my point, as you had stated “only aud counts” without mention of any state.

    Good luck!

@mla11692 Ah, that sucks. My attest experiences are all abroad, with a big four internship and a local firm internship. I don't think that might count. I thought I can have all my transcript mailed today, but now it seems that I still have to wait for the letter to come first. Hate the waiting..

Well since you're waiting anyway i'd check with the board to see if that experience counts. You have nothing to lose for asking.

@mla11692 That makes perfect sense, I am currently putting together all the stuff I need for application so that as soon as I get the letter I would be able to send them in. By the way, is it possible for me to add you on linkedin by any chance?
