I was wondering how long these scores last for. I recently passed FAR and sat for BEC (waiting on the results), and I got the letter that says pass and expires in 18 months. I was wondering if anybody knew how long scores last for after I pass all 4 parts within that 18 month window?? Because I know that you need 1 year of working experience to get your license. so I was just wondering if I have all exams passed in the 18th month window and start working if the scores will run out on me before I receive my year of experience. I would think that the scores will last for a few years after I’m all done with the exam in order to get my experience but I’m not exactly sure.

lol.. please just check with your state board – it's just a quick phone call. Your State board is not going to grant you an extension because connie and your friend said it lasts 5 years.

Will do at some point worried about pasing them all first before I worry about getting certified. Although, I would consider my buddy a very reliable source since he works at EY and already has the hours needed.

Jason – Because every state sets there own rules regarding the CPA exam to include eligibility requirements, credit expiration dates, licensing requirements, you should only trust what your state board tells you and be sure to get it in an email if at all possible. I don't doubt what you are saying about your friend and sure everyone on this forum means well in answering these types of questions but I agree with dwadecpa that you need to contact your state board so you have the facts from the people setting the rules. The CA state board gave me the following reply to the same question:

“In response to your email, there is no expiration on your exam scores. You can apply for licensure any time you wish after passing the exam.”

But, as others have suggested, it may vary by state.

you know, the first paragraph doesn't relate to scores, but does say that experience must be earned within 5 years maximum.

Now, I don't know if it means right after the exam, or you could start in a year for example

FL is 3 years, don't know about other places. Some have decades-long experience that's acceptable, so it can vary.

Yea, I actually contacted a state representative and found out that I get a maximum of 5 years to get the work experience and a minimum of a year. In the latter case this means that if I got the 2,000 hours before a year was up, then I would have to wait a year then apply for my license. At least this was my understanding….

To clarify further, if I got the 2,000 hours in 7 months then I would have to wait until the end of that year and would be eligible for my license. This is only Michigan, however, so anybody from Michigan there's your answer….

Does anyone know how long scores last for PA? I'm in contact with the PA state board but I'm still a little confused…

Jason, I was just trying to figure out the same regarding Michigan expiration time. Like Anna said its under the work experience requirements, but since you contacted the board that is perfect. Now we should get those exams passed and get the work experience 🙂
