I’m looking for recent experiences with obtaining one’s license in VA (I did search of the forum but it didn’t come up with much of anything). I just finished my exam and took my ethics exam as well. I’ve faxed over my experience form and my certificate from the ethics exam. I’ve also completed the online application and paid the application fee. Any idea on how long it will take for them to process the information and issue my license? (I know they’re closed today for the holiday.)

Any info would be greatly appreciated.

I wish I had a bonus in my future, sadly my firm considers the CPA to be a personal goal.

I'm so antsy for this that I figured out the highest issued license number and have been watching as they continue to issue more licenses today. They seem to do maybe three an hour.

I never have any luck reaching Mary Charity on the phone. Every time I try, I wind up going straight to her voice-mail. Still no response to my e-mail.

@msgolds – I feel lucky that I got her on the phone earlier. Otherwise I'd still be stewing about my transcripts (I wish there was a line for that on the application checklist so that I could see that she'd processed them).

Edit: Just got an email from her confirming receipt of my transcripts and letting me know that she'll do a final review and let me know if they need anything further…

Alright, now I'm getting really annoyed. I sent a confirmation e-mail to Mary Charity right after I sent that fax yesterday morning to make sure it went through, she didn't e-mail me back until after 5 (when I was off work) to let me know it didn't go through. This is after she wouldn't pick up her phone all day. I don't know what's going on, the Fax Verification Reports all say they went through. I know it's a longshot, but I faxed it a third time this morning and I also e-mailed Mary Charity a scanned copy. This is just getting way too ridiculous.

It definitely is frustrating. She said on Friday that she would do a review of my information and let me know if they needed anything. I didn't hear back until Monday when she said I needed my transcripts. It took about 4 hours to get a confirmation email for those and then that just conisted of another “I'll do a final review and let you know if I need anything further.” This is worse than waiting for that last score.

Stroke of luck! I finally got her on the phone and she said she'd accept my scanned copy (which is good because the fax apparently did not go through again). So I'm good there.

They did contact me about the Misdemeanor conviction:

determined eligible for a CPA license in Virginia until the Board receives

and reviews the information indicated below regarding the misdemeanor

conviction of “________” on ___________.

Since you listed on your application the above referenced misdemeanor

conviction the Board requires that you provide a letter in your own words

indicating the circumstances that lead to the conviction.

You may fax your letter to this office at 804-527-4409 to my attention or

you may respond to this email with the letter of explanation. Upon receipt

of this information, your application will be returned to the Licensing

Department for processing. The sooner you respond to this request for an

explanation of the convictions, the sooner your file can be processed.

Glad to hear that they contacted you about it. Hopefully it won't take them very long once they receive your letter.

No changes for me so far today. It's frustrating to see everything marked “completed” but to still see the status as “Pending.”
