Hi All, my name is Saleh im from Oman. i would like to ask if is it necessary to buy the books of CPA in order ro prepare for the exams? or are the study guides enough like Wiley or Yeager? were the books also changed as a result of changes in the exam structure in 2011? i personally have good experience with Wiley as i have used during my CIA study and it was completely helpful and comperhensive. would appreciate if someone would share his/her thought on this. Thanks Saleh

It depends on the exam and on your familiarity with the subject matter. For example, I liked Wiley for FAR except for Govt and NFP. I thought the material was too brief and poorly organized. However, these were subjects I was weak in to begin with. Wiley was OK for AUD and REG, but I thought did a mediocre job with BEC. There are several changes to the 2011 exam so at a minimum you should buy the 2011 update book for Wiley if you already have 2010. The 2011 book was published prior to several changes in tax law at the end of 2010 so you need to refer to the IRS website for updates as to the current info.

    FAR 4/1/11 - 89
    AUD 4/15/11 - 85
    REG 4/29/11 - 80
    BEC 5/13/11 - 85
