General Ethics Exam Question (NJ)

I have been doing some quick research on the Ethics Exam, in particular NJ, and wanted to to double check my findings here to assure I am understanding everything correctly. Could someone more familiar than myself let me know on the following?

Can I take the Ethics exam before having passed all 4 parts of the exam? I believe the answer is yes but again, want to make sure.

Can I take the exam online rather than in person? For NJ, I see plenty of live courses offered by the NJCPA here: https://njcpa.org/cpe/products/ethics. That said, I’d prefer to take it online and found this on the AICPA website: https://www.aicpastore.com/AST/Main/CPA2BIZ_Primary/Ethics/PRDOVR~PC-732302/PC-732302.jsp. It has an “Online for Licensure” option that I would imagine covers my 4 hour requirement and does so online but it’s not completely clear.

Any thoughts would be appreciated, thanks all!

The AICPA online ethics course ‘for licensure' is the one you wanna take, like you said. In WA they allow you to do the cpa requirements in any order, so my assumption would be yes you can do it before you pass the CPA exam but id double check with your state board. I would also see if you have a state ethics exam you have to take. WA has their own ethics exam in addition to the AICPA one so something to find out about.

Glad you mentioned that and you may be right – it looks like the NJ exam I linked may be *additional* to the AICPA exam, whereas I originally thought it counted as the only thing I needed.

Actually – it looks like for NJ, the state specific exam is in lieu of the AICPA exam so it would be the only one an NJ candidate has to take for their license.
