    Hey guys,

    n

Here’s my situation. I have passed the CPA exam and still need 3 accounting credits for the 150 Credit hour rule.
nI’m already working for a public acc. company and I travel a lot. Therefore, it’s difficult to take the classes at my local university (I don’t want to apply for a Master’s program just because I have 3 classes left.). My only option right now is to take these 3 classes at the University of Phoenix online. My question is, do you know if the Fl or Ga Board will count these classes towards the 150 rule? My concern is that I will shell out a ton of money only for the classes to be rejected. I have checked out the U of Phoenix accreditation and it’s unclear to me whether the State Board will take them.

    n

Does any body know of others who have done this? Thanks in advance for any response!n

Are they are Regionally accredited? If so I would think they would be acceptable.n

I have the same issue as you do but I am missing 9 credits. I have contacted Devry university. They give online classes for graduate courses. The cost is $2200 for 3 credits. It is very expensive so if you have another solution, let me know.n

That was almost my exact situation. I graduated from undergrad with 144 credits and live in Florida. I registered and took the exam through Alaska, but for my last two courses I emailed the Florida State Coordinator with the exact courses that I was registering for at University of Phoenix to make sure they would be recognized. I took the two courses in the summer of 2009 right after I graduated and passed the exams last year. As of October I'm a licensed Florida CPA so I now know for sure that they accepted the classes. On another note, the phone advisor University of Phoenix provided was very helpful and even looked into former students' files who were from Florida to see which classes they took to help me. I would highly recommend it if you only need a few more credits.n

You said you needed 3 credits. I am assuming you mean 3 classes with 9 hour credits.

I took some accounting classes online through LSU, and it was pretty good.

The courses were $364 per 3 hour class, which comes to about 123 per hour. (That doesn't include the cost of the books. You can find them on the Internet for a decent price.)n

Question…how are you able to test for the cpa without having the 150 credit hours? I had to be approved here in il, from what the app stated you had to have XYZ before you could apply. Does your state give you leeway to obtain your hours?? Why didnt you apply to a state that requires only 120 hours like Ohio or somewhere?n

Thank you all for the responses! I decided to sign up for the LSU Distance learning program. I am going to take an Advanced Financial accounting class and try to complete it within 3 months. I am planning on taking the last 2 classes over the summer and I'm hoping that my local University will offer the classes I need. As francois mentioned, it only cost me $364 dollars, without the books. I hope this works out!

noahfl: You check out the LSU Distance learning program–it's a lot cheaper than DeVry or U of Phoenix. I haven't checked out Kansas State University or APU but i would for comparative purposes.

magic_8_ball: In Florida or Georgia, you can sit for the exam with 120 credit hours ( including the required accounting hours, gen. business, business law, etc.) However, you must have 150 credits (plus 1 year work experience) to obtain your license. I chose to sit in Florida simply because my job is here and I wanted to start taking the exam right away. I never thought of doing the research to bypass the 150 credit rule. In end, I think the 150 looks better than the 120 anyway..n
