Florida credit deficiency

I’m a CPA licensed in NY with an MBA in public accounting. I applied to Florida for licensure by endorsement and I was found to be deficient 1 credit (!) in upper level accounting. I plan to take an online course with University of Phoenix. I checked their accreditation and Florida accepts it. I’m concerned that I will take a course and the Florida board will say that its similar to a course I have already taken. My calls and emails to the state haven’t given me an answer. Has anyone had a similar situation?

My plan now is to take a 3 credit corp taxation course because the corp tax course I took was only 2 credits. I figure that covers me.

    Any advice is appreciated.

    Thanks

I am pretty sure you cannot take a course that is basically the same as one you already have. Even though it is worth more credits, I doubt that matters. I would strongly suggest taking something that does not overlap or getting confirmation from your board. Keep in mind that University of Pheonix is not your only option for online courses. I took a Fund Accounting course through an accredited community college in another state and it was much much cheaper than Phoenix.

Could you provide me the out-of-state community college website?. I'm in the process of applying to sit for CPA exam. I need to take Audit and Tax classes. The CC near my hometown does not have the course offered.

    Thanks.

    CC Credits:

I recommend that you are careful with the credits issued by community colleges, as they have to appear in the final transcript from a university in order to be accepted by NASBA. At least this was one of the conditions for the State of Wisconsin. I even had a course in progress with a CC (not even related to accounting), and it was not accepted because it was not listed the university`s transfer. Thus, if you already graduated from the University, the choices might be only undergraduate or graduate classes. Of course this may differ from one state to another, but, please, check in advance.

I am a candidate in CT. My state's website says that as long as the credits are from a regionally accredited CC, then they count. It would make no sense for them to have to be included in my University transfer transcript because I took them after I graduated and the University does not evaluate any transfer credits after you graduate. I can only speak of this from my own personal experience emailing my state board. They did tell me that any transfer credits appearing on my University transcripts only count for the value they are transferred at, not the value they were at the originating college (two of my courses were worth 4 credits, but transferred at 3).

The community college I took Fund Accounting at was called CNCC (Colorado Northwestern Community College). It is an accredited CC. They have online only courses. Just so you know, Fund accounting was not exactly easy and did have homework and readings every single week, but I did manage an A.

I also took an online accounting course at TRCC (Three Rivers Community College) here in CT. I am betting that one can be taken by anyone anywhere too. It was a Quickbooks course and was a super easy A. TRCC is accredited.

I know there are many more accredited CC out there. Read your State's website to see what they specifically require or write them an email. I personally thought Pheonix was way too expensive and so I researched alternative options and found what I mentioned above.

    Good luck!

Thank You, Lauramaria and IwannaBaCPA. Your replies are vey much appreciated.

My problem is that I'm unable to find an online course for Audit.
