Feeling a bit discouraged

I’m taking Reg in exactly 2 weeks. I had a plan of taking one of the Becker simulated exams today, and one a week from now, and work on whatever my weakest sections were in between. I’ve been studying pretty hardcore for about 2 months and I really felt like I was ready and would pass this no problem.

After taking the first simulated exam I averaged about 60%…. my heart sunk when I clicked review score. I knew I wasn’t going to do as well as I had hoped, but I didn’t think I’d flat out fail the whole thing. I guess I just wanted to vent my frustrations a little bit but I’m truly surprised and feeling really bad about it all around.

This will be the first exam I’ve sat for, I was feeling confident about it until this morning. Anybody run into something similar before their exams?

Don't let those simulated exams get you down. You aren't the only one that has had that issue before. Use it as a tool more than anything.

I agree with Last_First_MI. Study the sections that your exam says you did weak in. Read over the questions that you missed. You'll do better next time, just keep reviewing!

You never know what can happen on exam day, so don't let the scores on the simulated exams get you down! They are not necessarily reflective of how well you would do on the actual exam. Rather, they are a tool to help you measure how well you know the material that may be covered on the actual exam. You actually benefit from taking the simulated exams and studying all the answers you got wrong, because once you've understood why you got it wrong, you hopefully wont ever make that mistake again. Just keep practicing!

becker practice exams are harder then the actual exam. most people score better on the actual, i've seen about 5 – 15 points higher

nolifecpa i know you are only trying to help but in all honestly i am not sure thats the attitude he should have….what u said might be true but knowing that might cause him to become complacent…. if thats the case, great. until then just study harder and work on the weak areas…..

Thanks guys, I've gone over what I did wrong, and I know I need to work harder on some topics (AMT, I'm lookin at you). I also learned I need to take my time because I made some pretty stupid mistakes by not reading the questions right. Nolifecpa, I have heard that as well but like rknight said I'm trying not to let that affect me.

Truth is if your experience is anything at all like mine, youre going to walk out of the exam feeling like you've never seen anything that was actually on the exam before in your life! LOL!

I think you shouldn't put too much stock in to those practice exams. I've gotten tossed up several times when I initially do problems outside of the homework. I think that's just the way it is. I try to undertand concepts and then do as many problems as possible to reinforce them and find weaknesses. Just plug away, you'll be fine. These test are designed to break you but you'll succeed

Don't let it get you down. Work on those weak areas & hit it again. You never know what will happen on exam day. Also keep in mind that a score of 75 doesn't mean 75% correct. Keep working hard! You can do it!
