Experience requirement possibility…

I passed all four parts and am just waiting for my year experience to run out. However, it got me thinking that perhaps I can apply now? Let me know your thoughts.

I started my job in May 2013 with no active CPA. In June 2014, our company was acquired by a big corporation and now our accounting department works directly with, and supervised by, an active CPA in another state. I’m essentially doing the same thing, same position, same in-house manager, etc, but we now have the CPA on board. I tried searching through a bunch of threads, but couldn’t find anything similar where a CPA maybe was hired on or a coworker obtained their CPA license and was able to sign off, etc. So, do I indeed have to wait til next June or can I submit my application now?

It will depend on your state. But here in Ohio, you don't even have to work with the CPA, a CPA just has to certify your experience.

What are your state's requirements? I am assuming it's direct supervision by a CPA? If so, I think the only way to really find out is by asking said CPA if he/she will sign off on the form.

I would wait until you have the experience form complete before you submit the application.

In Illinois, you do not need your experience to be in accounting, and you do not need a cpa to sign off on your one year experience.

It def depends on the state.

Here in PA, the CPA has to be a Pennsylvania CPA. CA, it looks like an out-of-state CPA may sign.

If you're in CA, how do you get our attest experience working in an accounting department?

Our CPA will sign off on it whenever I ask her to. She was ready to back in June but I had to finish my last exam still, and then I just had it in my head that I had to wait another year until recently reading other people's posts. I'm in CA, so it has to be our superviser that signs off!
