Hello everybody I have a questionon the certification process in the state of AZ. I passed all the tests and have been going back and forth with the AZ State Board of Accountancy and the admin assistant will not pass on my packet to the next level because my supervisor answered no on the following question.

“Has the candidate had experience reporting on financial statements by expressing an opinion, per R4-1-343(A)(4); ie. oral or written communication of results of examination to employer, client or third party?”

My contention is that I have never expressed an opinion on financial statments because that is done in an audit (I don’t have an auditing background). Am I missing something here. I marked yes on:

Evaluation, recording and summarizing accounting records

    Preparing financial summaries

    Management Advisory Services

I also marked yes on “Has the candidate had experience examining financial statements per R4-1-343(A)(3); ie critical inquiry and analysis of balance sheets, income statments, cash flow statements, tax returns, etc?”

I don’t see why answering no on the question about reporting would not qualify my experience. Can somebody let me know if I am missing something here?

No they don't. It is very vague it is basically the admin assistant telling me that it looks better and stands no chance of being approved without it. I really don't understand it. I can't ethically put something that I know not to be true on the experience letter.

That sucks. What are they looking for then? More hours? I looked at your state board requirements, its very vague yes. Even govt accounting exp qualifies.

So what ultimately happened? I'm having a similar problem where the board declared my experience inadequate. I think my former employer is playing a large part in this whole situation though. I'm thinking about hiring a lawyer.

In CA there are different experience certification forms depending on whether or not you are applying for a reporting or non-reporting license. Maybe you are using the wrong form? Maybe you need the other form that just certifies general accounting experience for a non-reporting license?
