All, just a heads up when asking these types of questions. Please include your state. Each state sets their own rules when it comes to the ethics exam and license procedures. I guess based on your name you are from Colorado but I would not like anyone to guess that and provide incorrect or misleading information. I am sure someone that surfs this site knows but without someone from your state you can't be sure if their right. For example, I am from Indiana and Indiana doesn't even require an ethics exam. Those states that do require an ethics exam, the exam is not uniform. The best answer anyone can give you is check your state board of accountancy on the ethics exam requirements and license procedures. By the way, Congratulations on Passing!!!

sorry for not mentioning the state. I cleared my cpa through CO board. But i want to get licence in California.

My questions is Which one is better: Transferring exam credits or transferring licence from CO to CA

you have to order the AICPA ethics course. i think it's like $140 or $150. Then you need to review ethics materials in the self-study course and score a 90% or better on 40 multiple choice questions. You have 3 attempts to submit answers online, and then if you still fail, you have to mail in your answer sheets.

Oops, I didn't realize you said you're going for it in California until i read above. You already know about the CO ethics then. Disregard what i said earlier.

    CA:

The Ethics exam is only offered through CalCPA. I suggest the online version. Its a searchable .pdf. The test is 50 questions and you need a 90% to pass. You have three chances. Once you pass, CalCPA sends your results to the CBA. Here is the link to the Ethics exam offered by the AICPA.

you dont really have to study, you could watch the lecture dvd that comes with the material or just search for the answers in the pdf study guide.

agree with kaaCPA, you don't need to study, just watch the dvd once and you can always go back to it even though you started the exam already, you can save and resume later.

@nnenna – We dont have a video in California, at least not one that I am aware of. Its a take home exam, so like the others said, you dont need to study. Just get the .pdf version and search for the answers. Print out the 50 questions test and then just start going one by one. Search for a key word and then read a little bit. It definitely takes some time. I'm not sure there is any better way to do it.

The California ethics was pretty tough. I'd say maybe 3-5 hours.
