    hi guys-

the ethics CD ROM is on backorder on the AICPA website. It is really difficult to take that exam with the hardcopy book? If I get the hardcopy, can I still take the exam online? Thanks!

have you tried ordering through your state society? i used cd-rom version but imagine you take the exam online with both…im sure someone here can verify that though.

Either way, a few more hours and you are done! Congrats!

I just called the AICPA regarding this – the representative with whom I spoke said that they are basically the same thing; the CD-ROM version would be the equivalent of an e-book while the text version is a regular textbook, but both include a serial number in order to take the test online (you have three attempts at passing online, plus another attempt in which you send in your answer key for manual grading).

Given that he did not know how long it was going to take for the CD-ROM version to come off backorder, I'm going to go ahead with the hard copy; I want to get this done before my state CPA board meets for new applicants (once a month).

Thank you everyone for your insight. I ordered the hard copy book because I want to get this over and done with.

@InterFC1, if you fail more than 3 times, what happens? Do you have to order another code (hard copy textbook)? Or wait to another testing period? Thanks!

@jsmithsae, yes I did try that and the link they have (Montana) on their state site takes me to the national AICPA site for ordering purposes. Thanks!

I am in Connecticut and I went to the ctcpa website to order the book (I think it was cheaper) – I was able to take the exam online and get my score instantly.

As for worrying about not passing – the exam is very basic. If you passed all 4 parts, there is just no way you won't pass this. The questions are open book and are in order of the chapters. Just take your time to find the right answers and then when you go to submit it online, you literally just fill in a bubble sheet with the answers you chose.

Good luck but I suspect you won't need it!

    BEC: 79 - April 2011
    FAR: 78 - May 2011
    AUD: 81 - May 2012
    REG: 79 - October 2012
    Ethics: Passed - March 2013
    I am finally DONE!

@Jacquelyn – If you fail four times (you get the answer key to mail into the AICPA as a last resort), you would just have to buy a new course. From what I understand however, it would be extremely difficult to fail this… I don't want to say that it is not possible, but it's basically a test that is open book with unlimited time.

@MintsRGood… thanks… although I still have this ethics course to go! With shipping and tax, it's basically the price of taking a 5th section of the CPA!

$14 for S&H fees for a little CD package?! Or it comes with a textbook as well?

Wow, this is the most shipping fees I ever paid. Not being a scrounge but if one adds up all the fees so far spent on this exam & license, it is very hefty amount.

I know it is so pricey at the end of the day! I ended up doing the overnight shipping of 26. But it really did show up the next day.
