    Hi All –

Looking for a cheap way to get extra credits to hit my 150.. I know I have seen CLEP mentioned on this forum many times, but the CLEP courses are fairly limited. I have taken most of their courses and would have to take literature or history… neither of which I want to do. I came across a similar “test for credit” program called DSST. Has anyone used this to get to their 150? Or does anyone know of any other ways to get cheap/quick credits?

    Thank you all in advance.

    I'M DONE! ITS OVER! WOOOOOOO!!!!!!!

I've used DSST as well as CLEP. DSST if I remember correctly is more popular with the military than CLEP tests, so definitely as “valid”, though slightly less well known so you may find fewer schools to transfer the credit into. However, there tests cover more useful business-topics instead of primarily gen eds. I took Business Ethics & Society, Organizational Behavior, Principles of Finance, and Principles of Supervision. Supervision and Org Behavior have a decent bit of overlap, so are a good coupling to take together or close together. Ethics in America is supposed to be a really easy one, but I didn't take it (my nearest DSST testing center was 3x as far away as my closest CLEP center, so I used CLEPs more for random fillers, DSSTs more to meet degree requirements).

Thanks for the insight Lilla. I talked to nasba about Clep and was told a passing score was enough to count as credit… No need to transfer it to a university. I'm assuming the same will go for DSST, so I do not need to worry about that. (This was for New York atleast.. Maybe your states rules were different).

    I appreciate your help!

I've never heard of a state doing that, but bravo for New York! Even if it turned out that NASBA accepts it but New York doesn't, or something like that, I know you could transfer them to TESC as non-degree credit banking (just in case you were to need it or anyone else reading this – https://www.tesc.edu/documents/NondegreeServiceApp.pdf ). It'd cost you about $600, but would make the credits absolutely for certain count since they'd be on a college transcript. So, in case you run into any trouble down the road, that's always an option. (Or you could use that for the DSSTs if NASBA doesn't accept those directly.)
