Done with FAR…Any advice???

First test Medium difficulty, second test medium difficulty, third test medium difficulty. Not nearly as many long, words problems as the first time I took it. Felt good and 3 Sims and the research section. Finished with 2 minutes left, but just wondering if anyone has any advice on that?

I know if the testlets get harder then that is a positive thing, but has anyone passed feeling the MCQ were not overly wordy and long? Still challenging, but just not lots of long word problems.

    Thanks!

    Adam

I took FAR today (my first exam) and feel like I had the same experience as you. I didn't feel overly challenged by any of the MCQ testlets. Of the 7 sims, 2 were off the wall but the reset I felt comfortable with. I fell prepared going in but the more I think about it I'm starting to feel awful I didn't get the “hard testlets” everyone expects when they've done well….

    FAR - 94 (5/2/11)
    AUD - 92 (7/1/11)
    BEC - 82 (8/25/11)

    Drod57,

I really can't tell. I mean, I feel like LisaCPAPlease as in I did well on 4 or 5 Sims and 2 were just impossible. I have passed 3 of four exams I took and the “harder” rule didn't hold true to all of them, but I always get worried when the exams don't become wordy and more challenging.

They were not too comparable to the Becker Sims, so my advice is just know your debits and credits, amortization, bonds, etc. I know people that had Cash Flows on one or two Sims…I didn't see one. I know people that had inventory questions or income statement questions on Sims just like Becker…I didn't receive one (point being that all you can do is prepare your best because you just don't know). However, everyone I have talked to seems as if they received more challenging and lengthy Sims that I got. That being said, I was either very lucky or I bombed this exam.

Chapter 8 and 9 (per Becker) are about 25% of the exam, so I would also make sure you know your gov't and not-for-profit accounting (2 Chapters and 25%, good place to start). Test seemed conceptual, so even though some questions that seem lengthy can be made shorter and easier if you know what information look for.

    Here's to hoping.
