    Hi guys,

I have passed all four parts of the exam and have the 150 credits, the only thing I’m missing is the experience (I have seven years of experience in private accounting working under a person that was once a CPA, does this work?) Does my experience have to be in an accouting firm? or can I work anywhere as long as it’s under a CPA?

    Thanks guys

    FAR 86

    AUD 88

    REG 84

BEC 78 (don’t be fooled by people saying this is the easiest test)

When you say they were once a CPA. You mean they are no longer a CPA now ?

@Kenada Yes, they were once a CPA but once they left public accouting, they stopped taking their CPE's so they lost their license.

oh..then its a problem their license needs to be current.

At least that is what the CA board states in their requirements

@dcosoriog, you only need a US-CPA with active license who is willing to sign off for the previous experience you already had. Talk to someone whom you can arrange verification of your previous job experience. I mean ‘arrange' which might require you to pay for a professional fee for his/her review/verification/confirmation/signature.

Amor: wow paying for a sign off just seems somehow wrong. A part of me really likes this because experience could be tricky for me, but if you honestly worked under that person and they are an active CPA, the idea of them making a profit from signing off just seems sleezy to me.

    MBA,CMA,CPA, CFF?, ABV?

I don't think it's sleezy at all to pay a person you don't know to do some assurance type work for you. We all have the option of finding employment under an active CPA in the first place, or finding new employement that qualifies and waiting to get the license.

The answer is state specific. Your best bet is to call your state board. In MA the experience has to be in Public Accounting, 1000 hours of attest service under an active CPA. Ask your state board if the CPA was active during the time of your experience would they accept it (probably not but doesn't cost anything to ask). In some states ANY accounting experience counts, and in some states the CPA need not be your direct supervisor but just familiar with your work.

I also believe some states (but not all) prohibit paying someone to sign off on your experience. Personally if I knew a persons work directly I wouldn't accept payment for simply verifying that I did.

    FAR- 77
    AUD -49, 71, 84
    REG -56,75!
    BEC -75

Massachusetts CPA (non reporting) since 3/12.

    Yep I agree with mla1169

I am sure many states don't allow having someone sign off your Work Exp if they haven't supervised you or reviewed your work in some way. Personally I would not pay someone some sign for my Work Exp. Think it might be frowned upon.

My direct manager had their license expire so I can't use that person to sign off for me. But I do a lot of work for another manager who is a CPA with a current license and so he is able to sign it for me. 🙂
