CPA Experience question for FL CPA's

    I am near completion of the exam process and I am starting to look to see if I already meet the experience requirement.

    From my understanding of the requirements, a candidate but complete 2000 hours in between 1 and not more then 2 years of working. So it is either full time for at least a year or part time (20/hr a week) for no more then 2 years.

    Well in the last year and a half I had an internship with a National firm where I worked over 700 hours and I have put in around 1200-1300 hours at my current job where I am directly supervised by a CPA. My question would be, can I combine the experience from both jobs to put my over the 2000 threshold or does it have to take place at 1 company/firm?

    I start with the big 4 in september so this point is mute in the grand scheme of things but I would just like to be able to officially call myself a CPA if things go well next week šŸ™‚

    Thanks in advance for any input!

    You can combine experience from different firms. I don't think it really matters where you get the experience from in FL. The rules just say “any type of service or advice involving the use of accounting, attest, compilation, management advisory, financial advisory, tax, or consulting skills.”

    Your experience, however, doesn't count toward the requirement until after you're eligible to sit for the exam. So any experience you got before becoming eligible to sit for the exam would not count.

    Thank You, Lord.

    @gsnyder00

    now you know why I'm not an english major

    The internship occurred the spring before I graduated undergrad, so i was not yet eligible to sit for the exams…guess I am waiting until fall.

    FYI – When you get approved to sit for the exam, the Board will send you a letter. This letter will state the date on which your experience starts to count. šŸ™‚
