    Hi!

I just passed my last part of the CPA as well as completed my one year of related work experience. However, I have not yet officially obtained my license (I still have to take the ethics course, etc. and officially apply with the state of Texas). I need to update my resume asap for a professional organization I am in and was wondering how I would display this information on my resume!

    Thanks in advance!

I'd be curious to know the same. Can't put CPA after the name so maybe in the summary section of the Resume, you could note: Passed uniform CPA examination, looking to gain experience for licensure or something like that?

I'm not sure if there is an official way to present this on your resume. I would definitely state something to the effect of “Passed CPA Exam (Date); Awaiting Licensure”

Congrats! I can't wait until I'm in the same boat as you!

    AUD: 07/11/11 - Passed
    BEC: 08/27/11 - Passed
    FAR: 01/17/12 - Passed
    REG: 04/30/12; Re-take 7/16/12 - Passed

    FINISHED!!!!!!!!

Dude, take the ethics course and apply!! What's the hold-up? You mentioned you have the experience. I am assuming your employer/former employer is willing to sign off?

Even though you passed all four sections, I'm not sure you can call yourself anything other than a “Candidate.”

@Susan – He is not technically “awaiting licensure” because he still needs to pass the Ethics and submit the application. I think putting “Awaiting Licensure” gives the misleading sense that it is a done deal. What if he doesnt pass the Ethics exam?

I will still consider myself a candidate (and not include on my resume but add to cover letter) until someone is able to look up my professional licensure on the state.gov website. Until then I don't consider it my credential to use.

    FAR- 77
    AUD -49, 71, 84
    REG -56,75!
    BEC -75

I would put something to the effect of “Certified Public Accountant Awaiting License” under a Professional Credentials/Certifications Section in your resume and then put the date you expect to have it completed after that italics.

Example: Certified Public Accountant Awaiting License, Expected Granting Month, Year

    B - 80 - 07/25/2011
    A - 86 - 08/31/2011
    R - 80 - 10/14/2011
    F - 80 - 11/30/2011

I really not sure that its appropriate to put “CPA” anything except maybe “CPA Candidate” on your resume. “Awaiting Licensure” doesnt mean anything because you're not a CPA unless your license is approved. Meeting the requirements certainly is not enough to call yourself a CPA, and even if you have sent in your application and transcripts to the state board, I still dont believe “awaiting licensure” would be appropriate.

I would simply put that you have passed all four parts of the CPA exam.

If you ask me, putting “CPA Awaiting License” or something to that effect may be misleading. Although you may be awaiting your license (after you complete EVERYTHING, including ethics exam), you're still not a CPA until you get the license and it's recorded by the appropriate organizations.

I wouldn't put anything beyond “Passed the CPA Exam, nearing completion of license requirements” on your resume until it's official. Anything beyond that might be a misrepresentation, or at the very least it leaves the door open for confusion on the part of the reader.

    Hope that helps.

Tbstew, CPA Awaiting a passing score and the experience requirements

    Doh!

    AUD - 79
    BEC - 88
    REG - 87
    FAR - 86 - Woot, all done!
    Ethics - 100
