I was hoping to get some help regarding the application process for Colorado. I am currently waiting to find out if I passed my last section (AUD). I took the test on May 30th. I figured out today, after July 1st my education will not meet the necessary requirements.

Does anyone know the process for getting the ethics exam for Colorado? How long does it take?

If I passed I need to get my application in before the end of the month. I am trying to decide if I should start the process now or wait until Tuesday. I don’t want to jinx myself.

If I didn’t pass you will find me under a rock sobbing…

Everything is lost if I don't get the three letters. If they're from a different state, so be it. If I need a license from another state, I am screwed. Heck, at that point, I'd travel to another state and get a driver's license in that state just to get my letters. Hopefully that's not the case, though.

is the july change huge to sit for the EXAM?

I am enrolled at a macc program and studying for the cpa since I am not working. I haven't started any exam yet. I thought you're grandfathered in if your application process is completed before July 2015 (Not the EXAMS) . I must be wrong then

I don't think sitting for the exam is a big change (maybe 120 to a degree?), though I think it's a hard deadline for both taking the exam and licensing. The bigger issue is the credits to get licensed, but once you pass all four you can take your sweet time in getting the credits to apply for certification. I will hopefully be done with the exam at the end of July and I need two classes to be able to get certified. Not a huge deal, though in retrospect if I would have finished 1.5 months earlier I wouldn't need the classes. I guess it pays to do your research.

Yaz, by completed application process to be grandfathered in, they mean a completed application for a license, not an application to sit. Completed application meaning all 4 exams passed, all requirements met, unfortunately.

And, yes, tcheney, looks like you're right about residency. Big sigh.

Sorry Coloradorit :(. I feel your pain, but after July 1st there is no way to be a CPA living in Colorado without 150 credits. On the bright side if you passed REG you are done!!!! Just make sure to get it all in by next week.

Who is your employer? Maybe they would subsidize or reimburse tuition costs?

I work for Eide Bailly and they will pay for $2,500 a year, which will cover my two classes.

coloradorit over the past week you have confused me to no end. Your former signature was everything was lost, which didn't make sense in the first place. I am a Colorado candidate, living in SD who has a bachelor's degree and 147 credit hours. Upon this last score release I learned I passed the Exam in its entirety. Your posts started getting me all worried but I don't think the changing rules effect anybody for sitting for the exam, just for the licensure. Correct me if I am wrong. Since I don't have the experience, nor the education, it looks like I will be taking one more audit class in the fall, and by December I should have my 1 year of experience… And I live south of I-90, about 20 miles from Mount Rushmore FYI

@MChris. I felt exactly the same way. I think what Coloradorit is trying to say is that she is nowhere near the education requirement and she has no plans to pursue it, so the chances of her getting her CPA would have been lost if she didn't pass REG. That being said, the change in the education requirement has NO effect on your completion of the CPA Exam as your credit will never expire (if you go longer than 10 years there is a little more work you have to complete). Also, you should make sure you have two auditing courses and an ethics course in addition to your 150 hours. I have 171 hours and a ton of accounting courses, but I still need the ethics class and another auditing course. To be honest I have no idea why there is an auditing requirement, but no tax requirement….That's the accounting world for you.

Yes, what tcheney said. Sorry, I didn't think my sig was confusing, but you're not the first to be confused by it.

I'm in my 30s and I have zero time or desire to go back to school. I would need basically 2 years of school full time, and there is no way I can do that at this point in my life. So, if I didn't get in under the old requirements (today is the deadline for LICENSURE application to be submitted under the old rules), I would have to go back to school for 2 years. Since I am not going back to school for 2 years, all my work on the CPA would be lost.

And no, I don't think it has anything to do with sitting requirements, just licensing requirements.

Sorry if I worried anyone needlessly. I have been doing nothing but worrying (and studying) since January so I am not in the best mental state (better since passing REG, now praying there is nothing wrong with my application).

All 50 states have the 150 hour requirement after CO changes over, except the US Virgin Islands. https://www.aicpa.org/becomeacpa/licensure/requirements/pages/default.aspx

Going back to school in your 30's is really not a big deal. I went from when I was 33-41 while working full time and a single mom.

    Where there's a will, theres a way.

    Glad you don't have to.

It looks like I'm not going to be able to get in on Education in Lieu of experience. If I don't hear back from a former boss (who left the state and hasn't responded to my calls or emails) then I'll need to go back to college for an Ethics course. It sucks because I thought I was done and now it looks like I have another 6 months to go.

I'd appreciate it if anyone has a good affordable ethics course suggestion in the Denver area. I just want to be done with this mess!

I'm in your same boat. I think I am going to take it at Metro State, which seems to be the cheapest. Online or CU-Denver might be a good option too.

I would do UCD but I think the price will be over $1,000. Does CCD ro RRCC have a cheaper alternative.

This is really annoying. Besides it's not like every accounting course didn't have a huge emphasis on SOX.
